Filled in a day visiting the missions. Was lucky enough to get in one of the tours at San Jose. Kids loved all the history facts.

Each mission had something unique to see. There were separate driving and biking/hiking routes; they could have been a little better marked. The missions themselves had nice, informative markers and displays; the San Jose mission has a visitor's center with films and a gift shop. We were easily able to see 5 of the missions--we started from the southernmost and skipped the Alamo as we had been there before. The sites are nicely maintained; there appeared to be recent improvements. Our self-led tour was informative and interesting and took only about 3 hours.

The docents were wonderful at each of the locations. It is amazing to see early exploration of the Spanish into the mainland continent of America during the 18th century.

Loved the Mission San Jose, the church is still in use. Many things to see, life there to be imagined. With a nice video at the visitor center...
