Owner description: Located on the south bank of the San Antonio River, La Villita was one of San Antonio’s first neighborhoods. In 1939, as ground broke on the San Antonio River Walk development, city official led by Mayor Maury Maverick acted to preserve this colorful part of San Antonio’s history. Today La Villita is a thriving arts community that stands as a monument to San Antonio’s past. La Villita is on the National Registry of Historic Districts. A historic arts village since 1939, the galleries and shops found in just one square block offer unique art by local and regional artists featuring oil paintings, sculptures, watercolors, metal art, rock art, textiles, copper wares, pottery, jewelry, stained glass and regional folk art. Please check out the many Shops at La Villita, which are open 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday, many on Sundays. In addition to the shops, restaurants and cafe, La Villita also has a number of beautiful outdoor venues, including the Arneson River Theatre, available for rent for weddings, receptions, birthday parties, concerts, dance performances, and much more. For a complete list of events at La Villita, please find us on Facebook.

“Worth a stop along the Riverwalk”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

There are some nice shops with unique items, the copper shop is really cool with jewelry and house items. Beautiful oil paintings, pottery and art work... the restaurants in this area are good with room for events and to sit and rest on the steps.

“Another - You've got to go”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

If you read all of my reviews of San Antonio, you'd know that I love San Antonio and think you should invest a lot of time visiting it. This is right on the river and is a lot of fun. You see artisans doing crafts and you see tourist traps. Go visit and see what you think.

“Very Unique”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

It is a bit gimmicky, but in a strange way. Lots of local stores make up this round colony downtown. if you're in the mood for handmade jewelry or art, check it out.

“Nothing Special”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

This is just a bunch overpriced shops and restaurants. It is nice for a little stroll. I am sure they have some nice things going on in the little plaza on the weekends and during festivals but it was pretty low key when I visited. There are some legitimate artists within the shops so don't rule a trip to La Villita out completely but there are some cheaper and just as nice shops with local art located a few block further down the road away from the tourist area. I have to say I was disappointed.
