From the moment we checked in to the checkout the staff was all very pleasant. We stayed on a Tuesday night for a family funeral so the hotel did not seem very busy the for the time we were there. We checked in very easily at 4 pm on tuesday arrived back very late tuesday night and the first lot was full and we were not sure where to park and the guy at the front desk explained exactly where to park in the over flow lot and also gave us complimentary breakfast for the next morning. Our room was very large and clean. We slept well, it was very quite (we were facing away from the river, but it was also a tuesday night). We had breakfast Wednesday morning it was okay, the toast was really good. The location was perfect for getting around san antonio. Overall great one night stay.

Of course, with pets it is more difficult to find a good place to stay. We were pleasantly surprised. It was a bit of a hike to the Riverwalk excitement but very safe and clean. Green Mountain Coffee and Aveda products in your room.
Front desk personnel were awesome as were bar/restaurants folks.
Only issue was not much grass for the pup to go to the bathroom but what can you expect downtown.....concrete everywhere.

Room Tip: Perfect for pet travelers. They are great with pets. Nice sized patios off the room, too.

The hotel itself was charming, the staff was positively dreadful. My husband and I went to turn down our bed the first night and found used Subway napkins in the sheets. We didn't make a fuss about it, we know mistakes happen, but we did call down and ask for fresh sheets. After 30 minutes and no sheets, my husband stripped the bed and carried the sheets down to the lobby to expedite the process. He asked someone at the front desk for assistance and was told to wait. He did so very patiently for almost 10 minutes. Still holding the sheets, in the middle of the lobby. Finally, he stopped another staff member, asking again for fresh sheets. This time he was told they would bring some right up. He returned to the room and shortly after there was a knock on the door. Sheets were thrust into his arms and the staff member all but ran away. There was no offer to change the sheets for us. As it turned out, we had only received 2 flat sheets. No fitted, no pillow cases, no blankets. Another call was made to the front desk and we were told there were no clean sheets in the hotel because they were all being washed and it would be about 30-40 minutes. Remember, wehad started to go to bed nearly an hour before this. We did finally receive our sheets but of course, we had to put them on ourselves. My husband was very patient throughout this and we were still reserving judgment and trying not to blame anyone despite being pretty put out. Then....around midnight when we were finally sleeping, our room phone rang. It was the front desk, informing us that our car was parked in a tight spot and they didn't know if we wanted to move it. We assured then we did not want to get out of bed in the middle of the night to move our car, unless it was necessary. They said it wasn't, but they just wanted to let us know in case... let me just say, this was extremely frustrating. maybe it could have been forgiven, had it not happened AGAIN on our 2nd night stay. This time a slightly different scenario as both the hotel parking lot as well as the overflow lot were full this night. We asked the front desk staff where they recommended us parking and were told by both staff members, to simply park in the fire lane in front of the hotel. They even pointed at the spot. We did so, then retired to our room for the evening. 1am and we are sound asleep. The room phone rings. In our foggy sleepy state, we were not able to answer it, but certainly woken by it. Then 10 minutes later, we are awakened again by the phone ringing. (1am remember) I answered this time and was greeted with a perky "good morning!" No. Then I was told that our car was illegally parked and we needed to come move it. I explained that last night the lot was full and we were told to park there. He informed me, that the lot was no longer full and we needed to move our car or it would be towed. Frustration, no doubt evident in my voice,I told him we would be right down and...He hung up on me! My husband went down to handle the situation. He handled it much more nicely than I would have, but explained to the staff that we had been told at 10pm that we should park there. The night manager apologized and said we could stay parked there (could that not have been said over the phone??). My husband returned to our room and had just settled in bed when the phone rang for a 3rd time that night!!!! It was the manager calling to say that they would be sliding 2 breakfast vouchers under our door. A kind gesture, but did he really need to call us AGAIN in the middle of the night? These incidents along with smaller things such as not receiving extra towels when we asked for them, and having to ask again, made our stay much less than desirable. The calls in the middle of the night though, made for the absolute most miserable hotel experience of my life. Add to this that I am 7 1/2 months pregnant and having trouble sleeping through the night anyway. This hotel was far too expensive for us to excuse these issues.

The Hotel Indigo on the Riverwalk is located about a 15-minute walk from the heart of the restaurant district on the Riverwalk, which in our view was a plus. The property has large rooms, well-appointed. The service from the front desk staff and restaurant servers was quite good. They charge $15 per day to park in an open lot across the street, which we thought was a bit much for the privilege, given the neighborhood is transitional and real estate can't be that pricey. A bowl of oatmeal and a bagel with two coffees and a tip was $18 in the restaurant, so we avoided that ripoff again as there are lots of places on the River to grab a bite. But expensive extras are typical in urban hotels. They have a good fitness center, an outdoor pool, and an attractive bar.

If you don't mind walking half a mile to get to the "action" on the riverwalk and a mildly dicey neighborhood, then this is a good alternative to the more centrally located spots.

Room Tip: Be aware that you have to walk 15-20 minutes to get to the restaurants and shops along the Riverwalk

Well, if I had booked and stayed in a river walk room with a good rate this probably would have been 5 stars. If we had to stay in the original room, probably 2 stars.
The location is a good 10-15 min walk along the river to the first bars / food which although is pleasant I wouldn't want to be a group of lady travellers or elderly as there were some weird people either asking for money or just being rude, obviously homeless. Parking as mentioned is 15 dollars which to be fair isn't bad, straight across the road and purely for hotel guests.
The biggest issue I have is as a gold elite member you are supposed to get an upgrade if available. Checked in, no request to ask if I was a rewards member, I showed the card and asked if the points could be registered, the gentleman checking me in actually said, thanks for being a gold member so assumed a nice room would await us... Went to the room and was gob smacked at the view of the car park, not a nice one either! I mean, to say river walk, pictures of views on website and then to sell a room with that view? We rang down and was told immediately that yes, we have a river view room and come down and we will swap you, simple as that. The new room was fantastic but if I hadn't gone to raise the issue, we would have spent a considerable amount of money on a view that I could have had in a hotel half the price. I'm glad the staff were happy to move us though so that's a bonus. Please pay the extra and get a river walk view, not that it's a full view but it's lovely and peaceful at the back of the hotel.
Staff were ok, mainly chatting or looking quite bored... The only person that stood out was the bar manager.. I was overwhelmed with how friendly and professional he was, even the way he showed a new starter in the bar the ropes was exceptional.
Only two sun loungers for the pool, the pool gets sun in only half the area and by 5pm it's gone. Air con was good but if you have a river walk view with balcony, the heat from the air con unit obviously blows out heat and becomes too hot to keep it switched on when you sit on the balcony.
I do think there are better hotels but if you want a river view and don't mind the walk into the main area, you can't go wrong for the price. Just some niggles with the staff in my opinion. If you get a car park view, I'd stay closer to the centre and take the hit on the view as unless you pay a fortune, you aren't going to get a great view anywhere, stay in the centre as opposed to river walk.
Great city though!
Ps pillows very hard! Like bricks in fact..

We stayed and the hotel indigo on the riverwalk not the one by the Alamo. The rooms were clean which isn't always the case in a pet friendly hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food from room service was horrible but other that that it is a great place to stay!
