“Great location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2014

Easy check-in to the 1 bedroom apartment, kitchenette, living room on the 11th floor overlooking the freeway, but I guess could've asked for the other side. Clean, comfortable bed, coffee/tea making facilities.
An excellent location, just 5 minutes walk from the Alamo & the pretty River Walk. Other places to visit of note, also quite close so nothing too far.
Plenty to choose from at breakfast with coffee & hot drinks available all day in the foyer/dining room.
Wasn't expecting to pay US$24 a day for (valet) parking!!

Thank you for your kind review and description of our hotel and it's location. I could not agree more. I further apologize if the charge for parking was a surprise. Prior to working at this hotel (7 years) I only worked at suburban and airport hotels, thus I learned about parking charges at urban hotels. Our charge is on the low end of the scale in San Antonio for valet and self parking (with in and out priveliges). I try to make it very clear that there is in fact a charge and I hope that the charge didn't seem hidden. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review as well as thank you for staying with us! Please come back soon.

I have stayed at plenty of Residence Inn locations in my 20 yeaes of travelling for work, and have always enjoyed them!
This location is no different, very nice building in a great location for business travelers. The room I stayed in was on the 10th floor of the South East corner, which had an OK view of downtown San Antonio. One minor complaint I had, was the lack of rooms with a King size bed! The room was geared towards a business traveler, why would it need two Queen size beds?? Also, I agree with another advisor's review, in that the bedding used was sub par! Not what I expect from a Residence Inn / Marriott!
All in all, a nice first time visit to San Antonio! The hotel breakfast was great! Hot, and cold selections, and not the same every day. They even had customer appreciation events with cocktails, and food in the evenings! I will very likely stay here again on my next visit to San Antonio!

Room Tip: Higher floors avoids the noise from downtown!

Dear HercMech:

Thank you for staying with us at the Residence Inn Alamo Plaza and thank you for taking the time to complete this review on TripAdvisor. We look forward to hosting you on a future visit to San Antonio. I am sorry to learn of your displeasure with the quality of the sheets in the hotel. The only difference that we should experience here is the sheets are ironed but I will research to see if there are any recurring issues. I am sorry that you were assigned a room with two queen beds if this is not what you desired. Our renovation last year facilitated the conversion of 33 of our studio suites into rooms with 2 queen beds (not a common Residence Inn room type), this was in response to customer requests due to our high leisure traffic in the downtown San Antonio market. We now have 33 queen/queen suites, 33 two bedroom suites, 66 studio suites, and 88 one bedroom suites. Thanks again for staying with us and please come back.

Sincerely,

Dusty Smith

I should have written this review right after my trip to given more specific reasons why we did not enjoy our family stay. But here are a few we stayed on the SE corner room and could hear a pretty load dance music from a bar until well after midnight. The bed sheets were paper thin and very uncomfortable. IT WAS PACKED. We were never able to take advantage of the breakfast buffet because it was always crowded and messy. Took forever to get the rooms cleaned each day, way later in the day than most hotels. Positives: Great location, easy to get on 37 in/out, staff was friendly and fairly new. We stay in a hotel in SA about 6 times a year and will not be back.

Dear JDB from Texas:

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay at our hotel. I apologize that your stay wasn't excellent. Thank you for the kind comments about our location and our staff. As Trip Advisor provides anonymity, I do not know the exact date of your stay. We were incredibly busy during the Alamo Bowl as well as New Years and the Army Bowl (as was the entire market). This wasn't just busy with all of our rooms sold but busy with many guests in each room. This would explain the busy breakfast and slow room turnaround from housekeeping. I certainly apologize for any inconveniences caused. As the GM, I was at the hotel each of the mornings after these busy nights to make certain things would go as smoothly as possible during breakfast and to help any guests with issues. I am sorry that I was unable to meet with you during your stay. If you would like to contact me please email me at dusty.smith@marriott.com. Although crazy at times in the breakfast area, a wait for a table was never over 3 minutes. We set tables upstairs up to move large families and groups to alleviate the crowding. Please don't let this one experience form your entire perception of our hotel as we do strive for total guest satisfaction. Please give us another opportunity to please you on a future trip to San Antonio.

Sincerely,

Dusty Smith

Stayed here for only one night with my family. We booked a 1-bedroom suite through their website a day before our arrival date. We chose the room package which was inclusive of the $24 parking.
The location was good as it was near the freeway and walking distance from the major attractions. It was approximately 100 meters from the Alamo. During check-in, the front desk clerk was very delightful, courteous and helpful. The room was adequately sized (a little under 50 square meters) and had everything you would need for a short stay such as coffee maker, microwave over, dishwasher, etc.
Since there was no mini-bar, check-out was a breeze. Just return the key cards to the reception and go.

I think the best thing about this hotel is its location. Easy access to the freeway, offering fast in and out, either east or west on I-10 without the traffic noise that often comes with a similar location. We like the low profile layout and the rooms and grounds are well maintained with courteous staff at check in. There's the usual frozen (but heated) food for the morning “breakfast” but the attendants do their best to make it seem as special as they can.

Room Tip: Plan your time to avoid the morning and evening traffic.

Our recent trip to San Antonio was really fun, but the Residence Inn Alamo Plaza/Downtown was the best. The staff was very helpful, the room was very accommodating and the food was very tasty. It was like being at home, with all the comforts. The next time we are in San Antonio, we know where we are going to stay…Residence Inn Alamo Plaza/Downtown
Thank you and keep up the good work!

Room Tip: Any room you pick will be great. The upper floors have a great view!

Thank you for this very kind review. San Antonio is a completely different city with many other entertainment options in the summer than in the winter. Please come back and stay with us again! Thanks for staying with us on your last trip to the Alamo city!

Large clean room with amenities typical of a Residence Inn, very quiet (we were on 13th floor facing downtown/Alamo, in a 1 br suite), internet and decent breakfast inclusive, happy hour with beer/wine and finger food, very friendly staff, what more to ask for...except maybe for the very expensive ($24/day) parking - but this is true of any downtown SA hotel I've stayed in.

Note: You can walk to all downtown area attractions from here.
Highly recommended for family vacation!

Room Tip: nice view on higher floors (10 - 13) facing downtown/Alamo
