Owner description: Originally a rock quarry, part of the tea garden came from a donation by George W. Brackenridge and another section from Emma Koehler. In 1915 Ray Lambert, city parks commissioner, thought it would make a nice location for a lily pond. Ultimately, it grew to become a tea garden. The latest renovations began in 2007 and cost about $1.6 million, compared with the $7,000 Lambert originally spent to open the park. It is a Registered Texas Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Beautiful area”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

We walked around this free attraction with our children (not stroller accessible but that was ok). It is absolutely beautiful and we really enjoyed ourselves.

“Great Free Attraction”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This is a great garden and well taken care of. The location is wonderful, as it right across a very large park that has a train for the kids!

“Interesting and Clean”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The design of the garden and spotting all the turtles and the koi fish. Some of the koi looked to be quite old!

“Japanese Tea Graden”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

The Tea Garden is located within an old stone quarry. The garden is fabulous. The koi are HUGE and picture taking opportunities abound. Go there - you won't be disappointed. It is very peaceful.

“Nice free scenic place to take the kids”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

It was a great place to walk around and relax; best part is that it is free to get in. There was some construction going on and some areas were closed off; but overall relaxing stop and plenty of stairs to wear the kids out on. Not handicap friendly in the gardens themselves. Entrance to the main overlook level is.
