Owner description: Built for the 1968 HemisFair in honor of the city's 250th anniversary, this delightful park is a local favorite, particularly the water gardens and the kid-designed wood and sand playground, which includes a castle and space tunnel. The highlight is the looming 750-foot tall Tower of the Americas, offering a terrific view of the city.

Take the ride up the needle to get a birds eye view of the whole area. Then watch the 3-D action movie at the base for a fun tour of the whole state. Well worth the time.

I knew nothing of the '68 World's Fair and the hemistower in San Antonio, so this was a nice added surprise to our weekend trip. You hear all about the River Walk and Alamo, so we enjoyed a ride up in the tower (taller than Seattle's Space Needle!) Who knew?!

Nice park to walk around in. Make sure you go to the needle, the ride in the outside elevator is FUN - unless you are scared of heights! Then go to the top look out - really amazing on a clear day. The restaurant is good but pricey. ENJOY!

I actually ended up there by accident. I was walking the Riverwalk and saw the sign and just took it.
Turns out I did end up making a good choice.
1. It leads to the Tower of the Americas
2. It has some sculptures that you can see while walking
3. It has nice shades areas where you can walk
4. Segway Tour also comes through here lol
5. Botanical Garden is a gem
6. It is free!!!
7. Water display by The TOA is fantastic
8. The institute of Texas Culture is right next door

In hindsight.
It would have been cool, if I had rented a bike. City of San Antonio has bike rental stations that for a $10 you can get unlimited 30min rentals at a time. And stations are well within 30 minute window. I could make it walking within 20 min at the most. Just pay $10 a day, go rent one then park it at the next station only to rent another one for 30 min for free. Gosh I wish every city had it.

This was built for a major "fair of the Americas" almost half a century ago, and, unfortunately, is showing its age. However, I'd still rate this as a very good attraction, and the ease of getting to it just off the Riverwalk is also a good feature. (Just take the Riverwalk spur running between the Grand Hyatt and the Gonzalez Convention Center through that darkened, cave-like piece ending in some stairs at the back, and you're there.)
