“WORTH THE 15 MINUTE DETOUR! Amazing sights & history.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

A MUST SEE WHILE IN SAN ANTONIO!

LOCATION: About 10-15 minutes outside of town, depending on your direction

ADMISSION: Free (although I'm sure they'd happily accept donations)

We stopped for an hour or so on our way to visit some of the missions within San Antonio; including the Alamo. They have 3-4 preserved buildings as well as a BEAUTIFUL church that is still open to the public. You can even light a candle in a memory of a loved one! The other buildings are well preserved and offer fun facts along the way.

Behind the mission is a scenic walking trail. It's super easy, no hills, and has a boardwalk the entire way. You can even veer off the beaten trail safely - see the small creek, etc.

DEFINITELY WORTH LEAVING THE CITY FOR!

“Another Mission, Ma?”

You bet, and a 'not miss,' on the Mission Trail. It's a bit smaller, and the bell tower is no less impressive than it's sisters located along the Mission Trail in San Antonio.

“Interesting and well preserved”

I recommend visiting the San Antonio mission and get a good idea on how the first Europeans brought their cultures and ideas to the Southwest. It is well preserved and maintained with a very good, and still functioning, chapel.

“Recommend the tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

Interesting site to learn about the missionaries & local tribes. We did the 45min tour with volunteer guide that seemed to know a lot. As its a state park it's free to see & you just give a donation if you wish.

Most interesting was our guide told us the local tribes volunteered to join the mission whereas trolley driver told us the tribes were enslaved. I wonder who was correct?

“See the Missions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

If you don't see anything else in San Antonio, go see the missions. Love the architecture. Love the history. Love the landscaping. I've been on the Mission Trail so many times I can't even count, but I see it new everytime. Don't miss it.
