“A way to "kill" time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

We stopped here after visiting the Alamo. Not sure it was worth the admission price though. Lots of dead animals, some very unusual ones, and history of the Texas Rangers. It was fun to sit at the oldest saloon in Texas afterwards and have a cold Lone Star. Just don't expect much more than that and know that you are over-paying for silly entertainment. If you run out of other things to do, you might check this place out.

Thanks so much for your review. I loved the pun, "a way to kill time," very funny. :)
We do have hundreds of animals on display from all over the world, but we definitely don't try to hide that from our guests. The moment you step through the saloon doors, you will see mounts all over the walls. These animals were taken many years ago, some almost 100 years ago, and allowed to be displayed by the generous donors. We take great care and pride in our collection and enjoy having folks, like yourself, visit from all over the world. I don't agree with the "tourist trap" depiction. We are an attraction, but we are also a historic entity and museum and are proud to show off our collection. The "freak show" that you mention in your review refers directly to the carnival of curiosities exhibit. We do have two headed calves, shrunken heads and albino animals, but they are part of a bygone time that we wanted to show off. Sorry if it offended, that wasn't our intention. We are glad that overall you had an enjoyable experience. Thanks again for your review.

Sincerely,

Karen Bippert

“OH MY GOD! Taxidermy Plus!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

If you like stuffed animals (Taxidermy) and freak shows etc and have a good time in a tourist trap area like a flea market etc then this is the place for you!

We spent 3 hours here and saw a lot of Taxidermy and freak show items but we we also entertained and amused!

There are definitely things to see here and some to do also!

If you have small children I don't know how well they might react to some of the animals as they are overbearing and may frighten them.

This place is like a carnival sideshow and you should expect the same.

The Texas Ranger Museum is small but interesting and the memorabilia for Bonnie & Clyde limited but interesting.

“If you like duck dynasty ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

It is a very different museum. It has a great story on how it began and there are a huge variety of animals. The bar is cool and it is cool to have a col beer in a museum. We loved it. Much better to go to for a local point of view. You can go to a wax museum in any city. This is unique!

“Nightmares”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

I will have nightmares for a while after seeing this place. Any animal you can think of has been killed, taxidermied, and put on display. Sad. And, the tickets were too much many. They were good for 2 days. I certainly did not want to come back for a second day, the first day was gruesome enough. There was no option for a one day only ticket. I wonder if anyone uses the second day? Your ticket did get you 10% off a drink in the saloon if you wanted to carry one through with you. I should have, it might have made it less painful to view. I did like the sideshow section and the Texas Ranger section better. I was glad to get out of there.

“Fun place with an incredible amount of memorabilia.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

We were surprised by the size of this place after you enter the front door. It is enormous and has an endless amount of animal taxidermy and Ranger memorabilia. It took us about three hours to complete the tour. The admission price is a little high at $18 per, but the amount of "stuff" in this place makes it well worth it.
