“Fun Museum, Pass on Food”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

This was our 2nd time visiting the Buckhorn Saloon and Musem. Myself, husband, and 2 children (7 and 9 years old) always love the museum. It is fairly large, and offers alot in the way of things to look at. Mostly animals (stuffed) and themed rooms showcasing them. They have added a section showcasing items that would be found in a Ripleys Believe It or Not, and it is also fun to walk through. There is one additional section that offers optical illusion type attractions, and that is probably our favorite. We ate lunch prior to going into the museum, and it was terrible, no other way to describe it. We got hamburgers that were undercooked on the inside, but charred on the outside, and flavorless. My husband got a BBQ sandwich (recommended by cashier) and it was literally like shoe leather. Completely inedible. The service is extremely slow, typically you will wait about 30 minutes at least after you order food. Lastly, they have removed water from their fountain drink station, as well as ketchup from condiments, so you have to go back up and ask for these items, rather than just help yourself to them. Overall, I would say the musuem is worth a visit, but skip the food.

Hi KLMHouston,

Thank you for taking the time to review our museums and restaurants. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed our museums, but very sorry to hear you had such a poor experience in our cafe. I will definitely relay this message to our cafe manager so this won't happen again. If you wouldn't mind emailing me and telling me more about your experience, I'd love to make your visit up to you. My email is karen@buckhornmuseum.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you again for your review. We hope to see you in San Antonio again soon!

Sincerely,

Karen Bippert

“Don't let the neighborhood fool you”
Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

Nearby attractions include "chain" tourist traps like Ripley's, so I wrongly assumed that this was more of the same. Fortunately the missus knew something about this place. It's the real deal. The Ranger museum alone is worth a visit by anyone interested in the history of law enforcement. The animal collection is huge. The oddities are varied. If you have visited Clarke's Trading Post in Lincoln, N.H., then you might think of this place as the Clarke's of San Antonio. If you like history and/or wildlife, you will spend two to three hours here.

“A slice of real texas, thats really awesome!”
Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

If you love cool museums, and Texas, you'll love this place. The taxidermy and artifacts are numerous and amazing. From three headed animals, to giant elephants, to lots of antique guns. There is also a decent restaraunt, bar, and gift shp in the museum.

“Pricey but worth it”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

It was fairly pricey I thought but it went on forever! In a good way. My only complaint would be that some stuff could have been labeled/explained better. Overall, interesting
If we had had our children with us we would not have gotten our money's worth!.

Thank you for your review of our museums. Our ticket prices are comparable with many of the downtown attractions and we like to mention that they are good for two days. So if you don't get to see everything the first day, you are welcome back the next. We appreciate your comments about the signage and are working to update it soon. Hopefully the next time that you return it will be better than ever. Thanks so much!

“Rangers”

Found the texas rangers part very interesting but the rest of it was just to many dead animals for my taste. The bar was large and surprised at being able to enter the museum with drinks.
