Owner description: The Paseo del Rio is San Antonio's favorite attraction. You can shop, dine, lounge in a cafe, or simply stroll along and let the strumming mariachi soothe your spirit.

This is a beautiful, well-kept walk that goes for ages. Lots of bridges so you can cross back and forth. We stayed along the riverwalk but not close to the restaurants, so it was lovely to walk along the river to the restaurants. We didn't catch one of the boats, but they looked like fun and travel up and down the river with tour guides giving you a running commentary of the history of the buildings.

Really a lovely place to go. Will defiantly put it on my "to return" list. Oh, I should mention the homeless. They are everywhere in San Antonio and along the river-walk. However, I didn't find them threatening, just sad.

Lots of building history on the ride in the downtown area. It last about 30 minutes. Worth the price but parking isn't cheap. We payed $15 but as we were leaving we saw a parking lot for $5. We went there after seeing the Alamo.

Descending to River Walk from street level brought us welcome relief from the early July heat. Shaded side walks were clean and lined with interesting plant life- most notably the Bald Cypress. There were numerous fine examples of this tree with an amazing root structure. Accessibility is pretty good. We walked with a baby in a stroller and were able to find ramps in several key areas. In other spots where we wanted to rise for art shops, etc. we just carried the stroller up the steps. Most flights are rather steep however. Restaurants at canal edge are plentiful, as are quite a few hotels. Water in the canal looked dirty- perhaps a result of the high rain levels which preceded our trip. There were no unpleasant odors. While at street level in the city we occasionally were approached by young men asking for spare change, we were approached only once during our hours-long walk along the River Walk. Live music set-ups began to appear as evening neared. There were plenty of public restrooms (located at street level.). Maps at step locations aid navigation. We didn't stay past dark so we didn't get to view the string-lights outlining the trees. Next time we'll not miss this enchanting aspect!
Parking garage locations are easily discovered at the San Antonio city website. The Houston Street Garage was our favorite for proximity and price.

The riverwalk is a classic site at any time of the year. Lots of shops and restaurants for you to choose from. Every kind of restaurant is available from Mexican to yuppie. Make sure to go through the Hilton lobby to see the indoor stream. The lobby is also a passage to the Alamo!

What a lovely place to be. Having a lot of choice in restaurants and bars away from the traffic and at the water gives a modern interpretation of what you normally find in every town in Europe
