Owner description: The Paseo del Rio is San Antonio's favorite attraction. You can shop, dine, lounge in a cafe, or simply stroll along and let the strumming mariachi soothe your spirit.

It was a beautiful area and fun to explore. Once you reach the Riverwalk it was fairly easy to navigate in a manual wheelchair. Getting there was the difficult part. There are elevators in some locations but they are difficult to find now because there is so much construction going on. Many of the areas are blocked off and detoured but you can't take the steps so you have to backtrack and find another route. The sidewalks getting to the Riverwalk can be steep, some are at dangerous angles, and they were in poor condition. This made it difficult for a manual wheelchair. I was surprised by the number of homeless people on the sidewalks but they have strict panhandling laws so we weren't approached. It was sad to see so many empty buildings and homeless in the area surrounding the Riverwalk

The River Walk is really fun. Plan on taking lots of breaks because it really is a lot of walking. Check out the water taxi and not just the water tour. We have been twice and still haven't seen everything. It was safe on the River Walk however the parking is something else. Be very careful because there are lots that are not so good. The food was excellent and the night life was fun.

The best thing about the river walk is the restaurants. There is a wide variety of restaurants to choose from offering many different cusines. The river is not much to look at.

Our group took the long narrated tour. Other than being hot since it was still September, the boat ride was great. If you are new to San Antonio, it's a must!

We walked a good portion of the Riverwalk and purchased a 24 hour taxi pass. It came in handy a couple of times to save our tired feet! The Riverwalk seems safe and is beautiful. A couple of times we went up to the street level, but unless you are right downtown, the street level isn't that great.
