Owner description: Established in 1718 as Mission San Antonio de Valero, for over 300 years the former mission now known as the Alamo has been a crossroads of history. Having existed under six flags of independent nations and served as a garrison for five different armies, the Alamo has a rich history and a heritage to inspire Texans and people around the world. Although the Alamo is best known as the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo, all 300 years of Alamo history are vital to our story. Visitors can take a guided battlefield tour, rent a self-guided audio tour, walk through the historic Alamo Church and Long Barrack Museum, listen to a history talk given by an Alamo Interpreter, participate in living history demonstrations, watch a documentary on the history of the Alamo, and much more. Admission to the Alamo is free, but there is a charge for guided and audio tours.

Everyone told me I had to go to the Alamo if I went to San Antonio. They told me that it was very small, very forgettable, but that I absolutely had to go. So I did, and I will give it an excellent rating because it was everything that I though it would be. It was a tiny building that holds great cultural signifigance to a great many people.

This was actually our 3rd visit to the Alamo over our life time. We came back this time to view the return of William Travis' historic "Victory or Death" letter. The wait to see the letter was over 2 hours but the employees and State Troopers were very nice. We got to see performances and meet others in line making the wait in line pass quickly. The parking for the Alamo is $10 and you should get there early in the morning around 8:00 am. to get a place to park otherwise you have to keep putting change in the meters. It's a very serene, beatiful place that is well maintained. Love the Alamo!!

We love to visit this piece of history in the heart of San Antonio. There is plenty of history for the kids to learn and for adults to take in. You are within walking distance of the Riverwalk and various eateries. The Rivercenter mall is a short stroll away as well so there's plenty to do if you decide to park your vehicle and walk around. The Alamo is definitely a must see if you are in San Anotnio.

It was ok but nothing spectackler. I suggust you take in some of the tours and it might be more enjoyable. They also had a gift shop where they did have some info on the alamo which was helpful for anyone looking for more resources.

The Alamo is a great place to start with Texas history. The Alamo has such great exhibits, grounds are beautiful and the buildings are kept up so well.
