“Fresh food and cool atmosphere”
Reviewed June 12, 2012

The Shaffer Hotel Restaurant seems like Mountainair's kitchen table. Locals and visitors gather for simple and fresh food at reasonable prices in an over the top southerwestern arts & craft decor. I enjoyed a delicious dinner and great breakfast and the Pack family were very hospitable.

“Like going back in time!”
Reviewed May 13, 2012

We went for lunch, the staff is very friendly. The Beef Burrito is very good, large protions, couldn;t finish it. Very casual and good place to kick back for a bit after a long drive. They have signs in the wingow that make you think they have beer, no beer here. I would go back if ever in the area again.

“Good lunch in historic hotel”
Reviewed May 8, 2012

Stopped here for lunch while touring the Salinas Mission sites. Very unassuming place in a very unassuming town. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was good. During lunch, we struck up a conversation with a gentleman who, I believe, was the on-site property manger. He invited us to look around in the hotel's historic lobby and told us the story of both the renovation of the property as well as its many resident ghosts. The stained glass, fireplaces and intricately decorated ceiling are original and beautiful.

“Historic and funky!!”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

The restaurant at the Shaffer Hotel is a very unique place, the best place to eat in Mountainair. The dining room has an intricately painted celing (worth stopping just to see this). The "Pack's Green Chile Enchilada plate" is the thing to order!! A funky fun place to eat, I recommend a lunch stop here!!

“Authentic and Casual Atmosphere & Cuisine, and Maybe a Ghost or 2?”
Reviewed November 17, 2011

We stumbled upon the Shaffer and Mountainair, and enjoyed both the restaurant and community for its great folks and snapshot of years gone by. Enjoyed the original wood creations and paintings on the ceilings. I had a great indian taco and husband enjoyed a good burger with the varied and value priced menu. Excellent service from all the staff incl. the current owners who I believe are related to the first operators/builders in the 20's. If you come this way, and you should, stop by and check out the building, good grub and fantastic people of Mountainair!
