“Nice Room, GREAT food and good location”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

The location was ideal, far enough off the main road that it has a neighborhood feel but close enough to walk everywhere. An easy couple blocks walk into downtown area and about 5 min walk to the train you can take to Boston. The room was nice, it was larger than I orginally thought with a kitchen and sleeping area for my 2 year old. Breakfast was the highlight of the day! The breakfast food was AMAZING!! We stayed 2 days and each morning we were greeted by a wonderful treat. The only downside to me was that everything in the town closed so early, most of the shops and museums were closed by 5pm and even though we walked through the town at night we didn't find tons to do. I would stay again but probably plan better to coordinate with weekend stuff in the town.

Room Tip: If you ask she has an apartment with minimal cost difference that has it's own enterance and mor...

A perfect place for a get away to enjoy Salem! An historical house yet it feels so modern! My wife and I loved the room (very spacious) and we enjoyed getting to know Flora. She knows the town and gave great advice (where to eat). It was close to everything - a very easy walk to the village and shops. Leave the car parked in the driveway! The room had all one needed for comfort and peace of mind. Enjoyed a good breakfast with a layout that made you feel welcome. It could have been cramped if more people had been there though. Only wish we had more time there.

Thank you Scott for your wonderful review! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay in the Woodbury room. The Woodbury on the 1st floor, like all Federal style houses, have a higher ceiling height than the upper floors. So it is more spacious in that dimension. Glad you had a great stay & found everything you needed in the room.

Salem have great restaurants and was recently presented with an award for the 2012 Best Shopping District by the Massachusetts Retailers Association. There is much more here than meets the eyes, so we are very much looking forward to welcoming you back.

Shalom,
Flora

The Northey Street House is a quiet gem when visiting Salem and the surrounding area. We stayed in the Woodbury Room and it was large, bright and lovely. The bed is extremely comfortable and there was plenty of room to read, relax and spread out. Both bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean. Breakfasts by Flora were just delicious and my husband and I enjoyed chatting with Flora and the other guests. Don't miss staying here.

Room Tip: Woodbury Room gives you privacy and convenience coming and going.

A bit better than we had expected which is always a nice surprise. Having slept in many, many B&B's over the years and in various countries, This rates highly. Neither modern nor glitzy, it is very clean, in excellent repair with a comfy sense of being lived in - a home. Amenities are also good but could benefit from more comfortable reading chairs, maybe a lounger or at least something to sit back in. Kitchen is accessible and presumably is for use by guests. Breakfast is in the kitchen which has its drawbacks but our breakfast of spinach and cheese omelettes, fruit, yoghurt and muffins was quite satisfying. Excellent off street parking is a huge plus as is walking distance to several sightseeing spots. Our hostess recommended several restaurants and was spot on for each. Bottom Line: we will be back; we will recommend to friends.

Room Tip: We were not offered a choice nor were we shown other rooms. Our room was on the ground floor with wi...

I've stayed at quite a few B&B's in my day. I must say - my wife and I stayed at The Northey St. House and had pretty decent expectations. Little did I know how FAR exceeded those expectations would be!! I remember thinking and discussing with my wife that the place was a bit pricey and that we could probably find something cheaper. However, she'd never stayed at a B&B and she was in love with the pictures. When we got there, it was after 11pm. Flora had left a note out for us welcoming us, as well as left the door unlocked so we could get in. The room was beyond beautiful and so well kept. Everything about this place screamed 'home' and 'tasteful'. The next morning we went up to breakfast. We were greeted warmly by Flora and the breakfast she had prepared was not only healthy, it was RIDICULOUS good. We stayed a week and we were sorry to go. Flora recommended almost all the places we went while in Salem and everywhere was just as she said it would be. She even called me while we were out and left a voicemail reminding us to change our clocks back an hour for DST!! We loved Flora and our entire Northey St. House experience and we will definitely be going back!!!

Room Tip: Browse the pictures!!! They are all honestly as beautiful in person and they are on the site!

HI Roy & Tammy,
Thank you so very much for your heartily positive review! Jeff & I really enjoyed getting to know you both a bit and are delighted that we have made Tammy's 1st B&B experience a really good one. I'm truly humbled by your praise of my breakfasts as you are such a foodie & chef-to-be. We are looking forward to your return visit and potential transition to this area! Happy Holidays!

We needed a one night away and so glad we chose this B&B. Ideal location in Salem and Flora was the perfect hostess. The Garden Room was comfortable and clean. The Northey-glory muffins at breakfast were delicious with fresh fruit and a made-to-order omelet. We would stay there again.

So glad that we chose to stay here. Salem is so busy, this side street really is quiet and no traffic. The street itself is dark and a flashlight helps to navigate the sidewalk. A short walk and you're at the Hawthorne Hotel on the edge of all the activity. Also, the Northey's location makes it possible to leave town without having to drive through all the traffic in town.
Breakfast was always good. My favorite part was meeting the other guests and having time to chat, share , and learn from them.
The Northey is clean, it's neat, and it's inviting. We took advantage of the snacks and beverages that the hostess had set out for her guests.
Thank you to Flora for making our stay a positive experience.

Room Tip: The third floor does have a lower ceiling but the room is bright and you soon forget about it.You do...
