Clipper Ship Inn
Ranked #9 of 9 Salem B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 11, 2013

We just returned from the Salem/Boston area, and stayed at the Clipper Ship, making it our home base for the week. From there you can conveniently tour, Salem, Gloucester, Rockport, Concord and Lexington, Boston, and other points. Very quiet, very clean and lots of parking. Suzanne and her staff are helpful. Food and Drink are within walking distance. There is an elevator to the 2nd floor. As for touring Boston, very easy, the Salem to Boston Ferry is about a mile away. Its a fast enclosed large catamaran that takes 45 min to arrive at long wharf, just blocks away for the Freedom Train and all the trolley companies. Take the Ferry its a lovely trip with lots to see, food and drinks if you want, and no car to deal with. This was a great location for us and a good place to kick back after busy days. We were more than satisfied with this hotel for our needs, We would recommend it to our friends, and would stay there again.

Stayed for a night on way to ME. The rooms are dated but very clean and comfortable. The staff was excellent. Location is a little away from the waterfront. You do have to drive but the value makes up for it.

Room #142 was large. 2 queens. Super clean. Less than $140 for 2 adults & a small dog. Box TV & real keys! Mattresses are rock hard though. I know they are a personal preference but they are beyond firm. Prob would stay 7 miles down road at Double Tree next time and spend the extra $40. They have great mattresses.

The Clipper Ship Inn, is interesting to say the least. I WOULD stay here again, however, be forewarned:
We found an empty box to some sort of vibrating condom attachment.
There is no dead bolt, or even a chain or latch. (You'd think they would at least instal some chains, as MANY people have complained about this.)
Our room smelled very faintly of Cat, as this Inn has some full-time residents, and it is apparently Cat-Friendly.

The pros:
We got a whole bunch of Dunkin' Donuts cards to use across the street, which was convenient.
The room was quite large. Two large beds, and a pull out sofa. As well as a decent sitting area.

We really didn't mind the location, and I was secretly amused at the amount of times the woman working late at night would be sleeping. I guess that's not all that surprising though.

It's also a decent distance from the road, so it's a bit quieter.

Would stay here again, if only for the price, size, and location.

Room Tip: I'd say I felt marginally safer with a room on the second floor, instead of a ground floor room.

I read a lot of mixed reviews of this hotel and was a little nervous about staying there. I was met at check in by Suzanne and she was very helpful. She showed us a map to get around with and gave us Dunkin Donut gift certificates. The room was nothing fancy but was large and very clean. The Inn is very close to everything. If you are looking for a nice little place to stay I would recommend the Clipper Ship Inn

We were a group of 13 people. We stayed 2 nights. We enjoyed our stay and the staff was very personable.

Restaurants right across the street.

Would definitely stay there again'

If I had anything negative to stay, it would be that the rooms are a little dated but it's still very clean. I am quite tall and noticed everything was low to the ground. Bed, toilets, tub, etc. Reminds me of stuff from the 90's. I also like a VERY firm bed. and I found the beds quite soft. Still very comfortable.

While the hotel is a little outdated, the rooms were very clean, and the staff were very helpful. Upon checking in, the woman at the front desk took her time to show us a map of the area and highlighted sites and their location from the hotel. The hotel is older, so the TV was a small tube TV which didn't work very well, and the air conditioner was a window unit that was loud. The room was spacious though, and it was in a quiet area. I would stay here again.
