Description: Located in the Old London Coffee House, which dates back to the 1700s, Red’s Sandwich Shop has been visited by many Celebrities, Congressman, Senators and even First Lady Barbara Bush. A relaxed, friendlly atmosphere in a historic building is the perfect place to join Salem locals for the BEST breafkast and lunch menu in town. The food is delicious, all home-style cooking at pricing so reasonable you almost feel guilty. Having visited numerous restaurants in Salem that charge outrageous pricing for mediocre food, Red's Sandwich Shop is the crown jewel of the city in terms of excellent food, great prices, and a lovely environment with a friendly staff. They offer an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, Dinner Specials, and a daily $6.95 Special.. And when they say roasted turkey, they mean roasted turkey -- whole turkeys are roasted on the premises and carved for your order. In a tribute to Thanksgiving, their Home Style Turkey Sandwich (roasted turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce and gravy) is out of this world! Wonderful specialty items from Chicken Marsala and Chicken Piccata to Chicken Pot Pie are made to order. Soups and chowders made fresh daily. For a variety of sandwiches from open-faced, to club, to roll-ups -- they cannot be beat. Red's is an award-winning restaurant that received the "BEST BREAKFAST ON THE NORTH SHORE" award for 24 years in a row! I cannot rave enough about this restaurant. If you have only one restaruant to visit in Salem, make it Red's.

“You should see the pancakes!”
Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

This was my second trip to Red's. two years ago I had a great lunch here. This time we went for breakfast. If you like diner food you cannot go wrong with this place. My husband and I had omelets which were wonderful, the home fries were crisp. I overheard the waitress warning patrons about the size of the pancakes. OMG you definitely should only need one .
It hangs over the side of the plate! We're going to have to go back just to challenge ourselves to eat an entire pancake.

“Excellent food and service!”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

While in Salem stopped here because of the Tripadvisor reviews. Very nice little hole in the wall place with a great staff and great food. First time in MA and never had a lobster roll before so I don't have anything to compare to but theirs was very good and freshly made. Could see by the other tables that breakfast food is super popular here and the plates were HUGE! Food is reasonably priced and very good. Definitely recommend trying them out.

“Not a place for lunch I guess....”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We were too late for breakfast, but we wanted to dine here based on the great reviews. We made it in time for lunch, and the place was still somewhat crowded. I feel the food looked a lot better than it actually was. My daughter got the mac & cheese, and it was kinda soupy and made with American cheese. My husband had a Cuban and he liked it. My son liked his lasagna also. I had the lobster ravioli since someone here raved about it. I didn't care for it much and I thought the "sauce" tasted a bit strange...like tomato soup, not marinara. Overall, it was not what I expected, it was more of a diner than an actual restaurant set in an old colonial house.
