A magnificent bed and breakfast, the Morning Glory's decor is reflected by the time period of it's charming historic neighborhood. Our suite included a sitting-room, large modern bathroom, cozy bedroom and a large private deck. A delightful retreat from the daily grind.

We just returned from the Morning Glory B&B, where we stayed while attending a wedding in Salem. What a great B&B! All the amenities were top-notch, including the beautiful building, roof-top sundeck with a view, fabulous decor, comfy bedroom with private bath, and welcoming host, Bob Shea. The Morning Glory is a stone's throw from Salem Harbor, and a three minute walk from historic downtown Salem. What a fantastic experience!

We spent two nights at the Morning Glory. It is within walking distance to many of Salem's best attractions, such as the Harbor, The House of Seven Gables (across the street!), the birth house of Nathaniel Hawthorne, the first candy shop in the Colonies, the Customs' house, the Friendship ship, Pickering Wharf, and the Beer Works. The house was build in 1802 and looks wonderful. There are decks located on all three floors of the house and there is even a patio in the backyard. Flowers adorn the main entrance and Bob and Mary made us feel like it was our own home. Our room was large, quiet and beautifully decorated. Great care goes into every detail of the Morning Glory. Especially into the guests. Bob and Mary made sure we had all the right information on historical attractions and train schedules to Boston. The breakfast was wonderful, fruit, juices, and home made breads and sweets. Personally I enjoyed visiting with Bob over a soda and hearing the stories of Salem through the years. He is a easy going man that makes you feel right at home as soon as he welcomes you with his smile and twinkling right eye. I highly recommend the Morning Glory for great food, great location and great memories of Salem.

It was clear from the first glance that this is a well loved, small, wonderfully situated place to stay and rest in. Its entrance is festooned with beautifully cared for flowering plants which gives you a foretaste of the lovely, interesting decor, comfortable furnishings and welcoming atmosphere afforded by the owner, Bob who makes everyone feel completely at home. He is admirably patient and painstaking about attending to guests' needs, giving information and in addition offering a delicious breakfast with cereal, fresh fruits and irresistable home baked breads and cakes.
Guests can peacefully rest here, not only because the rooms are so attractive but the house has a hideaway location. One can lounge, sunbathe, read, write or look at the stars from the upper deck which has views through trees to the water which is just a block away. For outdoor relaxing there is another pretty garden with chairs and tables behind the small private car park. Inside is a comfortable TV room where coffee or tea can be prepared at any time.
This delightful house is within short walking distance of the harbour and many historic venues. Nearby there is a tiny store where you can browse sample or buy hand made chocolates whilst you wait for a trolleybus which will take you on a tour of more distant places of interest.
Morning Glory lives up to its name, quite glorious. It is tempting to keep it as our own secret !!

Salem, Mass - Morning Glory Bed and Breakfast

My husband and I stayed at this magnificent place this past week for a few days and I found it to be one of the best B & B's on the East Coast!!! It is within walking distance of everything that you want to see in Salem and it is tucked away on a quiet little street almost on the harbor. If some one would ask me, I would say that it is one of the finer houses in Salem. It is quite beautiful on the ouside and very cute and quaint on the inside. The owner Bob is a gem as is his B & B. It made us feel so warm and comfortable and a pleasure to come home to after a long day of touring Salem. Most of the rooms have their own outside entrances and decks to sit on to drink your morning coffee and gaze at the harbor. It was truly magnificent!!!
When we go back to Salem (and we will) Bob had better have a room for us or we will make our plans to fit his schedule!!!
If you go there, be sure to stop by and stay a awhile, I am sure that you will find it as inviting and as quaint as we did!!!!

I have just returned from Salem and would highly recommend the Morning Glory B&B. Its in a great location right across from the House of the Seven Gables, easy to walk to all the other tourist attractions. B&B is like home from home, our room was very big and comfortable and our host Bob Shea was very willing to help us. Breakfast was just fantastic, lovely fresh fruit, cereals and cakes !!! Its only a 25 minute train ride from Boston so if you were wanting to do a day tour there would be no problems at all. The price is right and have no problems in recommending it. Am definitely going to go back again and have already recommended it to a few friends of mine in the USA.

My boyfriend and I have been to Salem before and were looking for our very first bed and breakfast experience to make this particular trip stand out. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised when we found the Morning Glory!

First of all, I had called the day before our arrival to make reservations, and I spoke to the owner's parents who were keeping the place while their son was away. Their light-hearted humor and pleasantness over the phone sealed my choice in where to stay, and fortunately they had rooms available and could accomodate my short notice and late arrival needs.

Our room, the Bridget Bishop room, was very nice with its antique furniture and canopy bed...as well as chocolate kisses in a cup on the dresser! Both the bedroom and private bath were extremely clean and well taken care of. The room was on the second floor right off the common room and next to a back door, which was nice because we could come in late and not bother anyone coming up through the front. The common room was nice too...it had a couch, tv, microwave, refrigerator, supplies for coffee and tea, some brochures and books about the area to peruse, and a checkers/chess board which we made use of. On the roof of the building is a widow's walk with porch furniture including very comfortable adjustable chairs. It has a view of the harbor and is very quiet (my boyfriend fell asleep in the sun up there!). Often the B&B's kitty, Squeeky, came up and hung out with us, purring and sitting on our laps.

Bob and Maryanne, the owner's parents, were as nice in person as over the phone. We had checked out, and Bob let us leave our car there so we could spend most of the day in town, and then we came back and he invited us to sit with him for a drink in the nice patio/garden. Maryanne made delicious pastries, each morning 2 or 3 types to choose from, as well as cereal, fruit salad, and DELICOUS coffee with a touch of cinnamon I believe. The breakfast area was delightful to eat in, and it was nice chatting with the other couple that was staying there. Here they had a supply of umbrellas for guests to use on a rainy day (we made use of one of these!)

The location of this place is also wonderful...it is in a very quiet residential section of town right by the wharf and the House of Seven Gables, and it is only a short walk to the busier historic district.

Overall, our first B&B experience was a fantastic one, and we will be sure to stay here again and recommend it to anyone!!!
