“Impressive Theme”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

This restaurant is a converted historic prison. Walk through the restaraunt upon entrance to discover the bar, which was formerly the a concrete holding area. They do a great job of integrating the theme in many fun ways - drinks named after various prison/incarceration terms, a bar and temporary walls using the original prison bars, etc. Bartenders are friendly and helpful, drinks are very tasty and the appetizer we had (a special pasta dish) was delicious.

“Cindy made this a great experience!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

I recently visited the Great Escape for dinner and it was a great time. I had been there once before for lunch with some friends and the food portions and choices were just as great. Dinner and the drinks were fantastic. I highly recommend the Lynchburg Lemonade and for dinner the grilled chicken. High quality food and again huge portions. Definitely try to save room for dessert! A well deserved mention to Cindy who made our experience all the more delightful. Funny, sweet and very informative of events happening around Salem. Thanks for the recommendation of the sherbert bomba! We will definitely be returning.

“Good food, noisy ambience”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

The Great Escape is in a former prison -- with brick interior walls and a high ceiling. Thus the noise carries. The main courses are excellent. The bar is in a different space -- and much quieter. Free valet parking is a great convenience.

“Pricey, but worth it”

A great new place in the old "haunted" jail. The jail theme isn't overdone and the service was terrific. Great food and a great atmosphere. Recommended!
