“warming welcome in a sunny but cold afternoon”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

It was the first time we visited Capt's and totally regretted not to be there earlier. Sure to visit there more frequently. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and punctuate. All of our choices (onion soup, Capt's salad, seafood variety with clam chowder, swordfish with vegetables and rice, dark chocolate cake) were very delicious. Especially the fried seafood was very light, crispy and fresh (best clams I've ever eaten around this area). We also liked the serving style and size except the seafood variety which was a huge portion (probably better to be shared by 2 people). We were lucky as it was not too busy when we were there for lunch in weekday. We could enjoy the nice playback music.

Esin, your review is like music to our ears! Thank you for the compliments. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit. The onion soup and clam chowder are perfect for cold afternoons. Good call on the swordfish! Ending with the dark chocolate cake could not sound more perfect. You two really got the best tastes of our menu! Can't wait to see you guys more often! — All the best, Heather, Manager

“Good food, atmosphere ok”

Food was good. Not very busy when we were there. Atmosphere is ok. Service was average. Nothing to write home about, but a great location on the waterfront in Salem.

“One of Salem's local gems”

One of the better swordfish dinners around. Kitchen is very accommodating to any diet. Denise was an excellent waitress! She was very receptive to all my requests and made sure we had the best meal/expirrence possible.

“Touristy, not bad”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We were in Salem on a particularly busy day, and with no idea where to eat, hunger rising and long lines at most places, we settled on Capt's Waterfront Grill. We ate in the bar area to save time and the waiter who helped us was very nice. I got the clam chowder, which was thick, but not very seasoned at all. The lobster mac and cheese had a lot of nice chunks of lobster, but the noodles were mostly overdone and flavorless. It was not a bad experience, it was average for a tourst-like place as this is. Other dishes looked good, so I am sure it is fine. A couple other things I noticed, one was they displayed some steaks when you you come in and they all looked gray and unappealing and you could see into the kitchen, which is something you don't really want to do here. These aren't white coat chefs, but t-shirted dudes with their baseball hats backwards. I don't need to see that. I don't downgrade them for seeing the kitchen, just the food, which was average.

GoodFood88,

I wish we impressed you more! Thank you for your feedback. We'll see what we can do about seasoning the clam chowder more. It's a shame you found the lobster mac "flavorless". It's usually a big hit! We're always striving to improve, so we appreciate your comments. Hope to see you again in the future!
