“Should not miss this”

If you are a history buff or a literary buff you should go. The grounds are beautiful so you can wander around and look out onto the water while you are waiting for your guided tour. The guided tour takes you into the House of the Seven Gables and gives you both a perspective on the actual occupants of the house compared with the story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Also on the grounds is the birthplace of Nathaniel Hawthorne so this is a nice little bonus. You should be relatively mobile as the tour involves some narrow winding stairs.

“Great tour”
Reviewed August 31, 2014

Took the family on the House of Seven Gables Tour with we really enjoyed it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and the kids really had fun walking up the "secret stairs". This is a must do if you find yourself in Salem.

“Hawthorne's Residence”
Reviewed August 27, 2014

We are cat people, and this was the first place on our trip where we made friends with local cats - two of them! This is part of the Hawthorne legacy.

The tour of the original house was informative and entertaining, and the rest of the property was well cared for. Entry fees were reasonable, and value for money was high.
