“A Quaint Look at History”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

The tour of the House of Seven Gables is a definite must-do while in Salem. It's a nice diversion from all the "witchy" attractions (although we LOVE those, too) and the tour really does provide some great info not only on the property but also into the book by Nathaniel Hawthorne and how the various owners shaped the look and feel of the property, one in particular making changes to fit descriptions in the book. Lots of good info, a *little* pricey but the buildings on the property are, in fact, hundreds of years old an upkeep can't be cheap. To me it's a worthy contribution to a piece of Salem's history that isn't tainted by religious fanaticism or cultural stereotyping.

“A Necessary Stop”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

A fascinating glimpse into American History, even if you haven't read Nathanial Hawthorne's book. A really, really knowlegeable tour guide provided interesting facts and observations about the house, its history, the eras and stories about the life and times of the homes occupants. One sad note; it is not handicap-friendly - - I guess the era itself wasn't handicapped friendly!

“A must see”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

Our tour guide was great, gave a lot of information and history . The house has a wonderful history and is beautiful. Some interesting rooms and tight stairways that added to the fun. It is nestled right near the ocean so the view is fantastic. It was a nice place to walk around and get a feeling for life back then and how the house lasted through the years. There is a nice little candy store across the street so run in for a treat after the visit.
