The view of the St. Croix River from the park is quite nice and worth the short walk. Unfortunately, the trail is hard on an old geek like me. The trail has uneven steps made by the rocks. Our kids thought it was no problem.

Beautiful in all seasons! Make sure to check out the trails and the potholes. Can you find any round rocks?

There are two of these parks, both named Interstate, one in Wisconsin and the other in Minnesota. I have not been in the one in Minnesota, but am told that is is on a par with the one in Wisconsin. Wisconsin Interstate is a very nice park with a lot to do, including rapelling (sp?), on the bluffs. They are at the limit of navigation on the St Croix river, and cruises are available. The campsites are, in many cases, on the water yet appear to be above typical flood level. St Croix Falls, Wi., suffers from "strip mall itus" and is not as enticing as its counterpart accross the river, Taylor's Falls, Minn., which has the usual assortment of restaurants and "trendy" shops. The only problem with these parks is that they are too close to Minlneapolis/St Paul, and hence are quite crowded in the peak season. The fall is absolutely beautiful.

My husband and I stayed here last weekend. We stayed in the North Loop, that has good sized electrical sites, mostly shaded. Yes, it is close to Hwy 8, and we could hear traffic, but the campground was very nice. There is a clear area in the middle of the camping loop that was great for kids to play in, nice and flat. All the campsites around the loop had easy access to the flush toilets and the newly installed private showers.
The park has many wonderful hiking trails, many with spectacular views of the St Croix River. Expect to go up and down uneven trails, some steps built in rocks / wood in places. But if you take your time, nothing too difficult, even for us retired people, our children, and our grandchildren. (Although you must watch the kids in places at top of the bluffs.)
The park is just 45 min away from St Paul, MN. (We visited family there, and they came to visit us at the campsite too.) The town of St Croix Falls just outside the park is very nice too.
Across the river is the MN Interstate park (by Taylor Falls). We could walk from our campsite, over the bridge on Hwy 8 (it has a nice place to walk, and even can walk under the bridge on the MN side so you don't need to cross the high way. ) Some really nice trails in MN ... some even handicap accessible.
Both parks have wonderful examples of "pot holes" that were made by whirlpools in the river.
There is a small lake too, connected to the river that could be used for swimming with a "beach house" for changing clothes, and a small play area near by..
This is not a park for biking the trials, but sure is a park for canoe/kayak rides. There are canoe/kayak rental places near by.

For years, I have wanted to get to interstate park. It is tight on the St. Croix river with lots of activities in the surrounding areas. The sites on the loop we stayed,( by the showers) are very close together. Thankfully we had great, fun neighbors to the south that we became friend with, and the north side was pretty quiet. Because this park is so close to Minniapolis, It is VERY BUSY.we had several inconsiderate neighbors who yelled & screamed at each other & their children constantly . The neighbors across from us were VERY LOUD. No real privacy. Lots of kids screaming & running all over. We loved the St. Croix river and the hiking trails, great geological rock formations and"pot holes". Awesome canoe / kayak trips. We'll be back to the area, just not to this State park.
