“I'd starve if it weren't for this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

It used to be good, but under the new owners, it's really great. I love the new sushi offerings. They only offer what is very fresh. I also like the sukiyaki. Great service and excellent value.

“Quick, inexpensive, authentic and very tasty Japanese food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Being locals, we go to Samurai at the last minute - when we don't feel like cooking tonight - and we want a quick, satisfying meal for a reasonable price. Samurai's a small place, in a storefront, with about ten tables - set back from the road - easy to miss, but they have an extensive menu (84 items in English and Japanese) with all the usual favorites, about 25 sushi dishes and a few dessert items. The prices for entrees range from about $6 to about $9. If we want a little extra, we order the Gyoza ($4.90) or Edamame ($1.62) as an appetizer

My favorite is the Special (teriyaki chicken and veggie yakisoba, with rice and potato salad, $7.77) and Susan has almost always had the chicken yakisoba with extra vegetables, but tonight she had ginger pork with brown rice ($6.82) and she liked that very much too. We generally eat in, but they do a fair amount of take out business as well. The servings are generous; the veggies always fresh and cooked just right. Our order taker tonight was friendly and helpful.

They do take credit cards ($5 min) but they don't take checks. They're open for lunch and dinner and closed on Sundays.

“Authentic Japanese Cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2009

This is a very hidden little gem. In the middle of a strip mall (isn't everything in Tucson?) it's easy to miss. They have awesome sticky rice, their homemade ginger sauce is tasty and the veggies are always fresh and cooked just right. Very authentic, very delicious. I don't think they take credit cards, so bring cash! Well worth it.
