My wife and I met two friends for dinner at Pizazz Pizza Bistro this past weekend. Despite a very pleasant atmosphere, inside and out (they have good-sized patio), only one other table was taken at 8PM on a Saturday night. This is real shame--Pizazz had delicious, carefully-prepared food made from quality ingredients and excellent, atttentive service...all at reasonable prices. The pesto made at tableside (analagous to the table-side salsa at Guadalajara Grill, the sister restaurant across the street) was a nicely balanced mix of olive oil, basil, garlic, and tomatoes. It had a lower proportion of basil to oil than the stereotypical pesto, making it perfect for dipping into with the warm sliced bread that was provided. Salads were sizeable and full of fresh vegetables, although the dressings were relatively undistinguished. We shared three 12 inch pizzas (priced $9-11) between the 4 of us and had a fair amount of leftovers, but not because of any problem with the pizza. It was among the best we've had in Tucson. The thin crust was very slightly crispy on the outside, with a soft interior. Sauce and cheese were well balanced. Toppings were generous, but not overwhelming, and of high quality across the board. Somehow, it was nearly as good when we heated up the leftovers in the oven today.
As for the nearly empty dining room, the first few months are almost always rough going for new restaurants. This one definitely deserves to stick around for the long haul. Check it out!
