Check-in is super easy which is espcially nice when you are tired from traveling, the place always looks tidey and well kept and the rooms always have the air on. Hey! It's Tucson, so thats imprtant to me.

Our family of four (Mom, Dad & 2 kids) stayed one night in a suite at the Hampton Inn and Suites Tucson Mall. The property is very well maintained with a surprisingly artistic and interesting lobby area. With "Tucson Mall" in the property name I expected to find the hotel within walking distance of the mall. That is not the case unless you are up for a long walk.

All of the people working the hotel were very nice and very helpful. Our night desk guy was able to help with a couple questions while working to check in three different parties all at once.

Breakfast was OK. The restaurant setting is nice. Oatmeal, cereal, and breads were all very good. Eggs and breakfast meat were about what you would expect in banquet style food...OK, not great.

Our room was comfortable and clean with a few dings and some wear and tear signs.

Pool was good.

Room Tip: Several interior courtyard rooms have no view at all. Wall or roof of the expanded lobby fills the entire window.

I travel weekly for work, and I always try to stay at a Hampton because they are usually consistently nice. This particular Hampton is definitely below average. It kind of seems like they took a Days Inn or some other cheaper chain and stuck a Hampton logo on the front without actually remodeling any of the spaces. The main breakfast area is tolerable, but my room kind of looks like someone either: 1) went to goodwill and bought a bunch of very beat up furniture to fill the space, or 2) furnished the space in 1980 and never touched it again. To say that everything is well-worn is a nice way to put it. The wallpaper in the bathroom is peeling, and the vanity is some sort of faux marble that is all chipped and scratched. Floor tiles are broken.

Other than the lack of updates, I also have to complain about the lack of basic Hampton amenities. There was no yogurt or bananas with breakfast, and they do not put out cookies or any sort of snack in the evening. There was no decaf tea (and a very poor selection of other teas). I know these things are not a huge deal, when when you travel as often as I do you make decisions based on the little things.

Oh also the deadbolt on my door wouldn't latch. Even the sign on the door is so old it says the max rate for my room is $129 and I know I am paying at least $135 (on a weekday, with the AAA discount). There is no soap dish in the bathroom. There is no thermostat in the room (there is a window unit thing that you can use to roughly adjust the temp).

Bottom line, it is clean enough that I didn't check out immediately upon arrival, but I would never stay here again. Do yourself a favor and spend your money somewhere else.

Spent a very nice weekend for free with hilton honors points. The room was large enough (we were two), beds were very comfortable, bathroom clean, shower with good water pressure. Good service. Breakfast as in other hampton inns: mostly "continental" choice (bread, jams, muffins and cereals), with self service scrambled eggs and bacon. I loved especially the do-yourself waffles.
