“Wonderful Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2007

Stayed at the Hilton EC on two different days in Feb. about 1 week apart. Our stay we were upgraded to the cassitas. The cassitas were spacious, and very comfortable. On our second stay a week later we stayed in a resort room. This too was clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly, except for the valet parking attendants, I found them almost rude. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. Take the sunset horse back trip, you will love it. All in all I highly recommend staying here if in the Tuscon area.

We were there for a conference this month. We had a great room with nice furnishings (not opulent) in Bldg 3. Everything was updated and clean. We had the same sweet maid everyday that could not speak our language but was eager to please. Bed was comfortable (and others mentioned this in the conference). The buildings all connect by a covered walk and when it rained we did not have to go outside. The bathroom had stone counters and pretty tile. We were very comfortable. There was a couch and nice coffee table where we played card games with other convention folks.
We ate breakfast at Sundance, one of their restaurants. We were horrified that a weekly breakfast buffet was $20. But when a friend suggested we use our Hilton Gold Rewards, the buffet was only $6...quite a bargain. There were eggs made to order, potatoes, meats, rolls, fruit, drinks..nothing too excessive. Wait staff and hostess very friendly and helpful.
We ate at another of their restaurants, Dos Locos. It was a catered meal for a group and it was just average. Perhaps we would have done better off the menu.
Our food for special meals at the convention that they catered was attractively served but poor. One morning I had a cold tortilla, a scoop of beans with out of the box scrambled eggs and a slice of an orange. Pretty but not very tasty. No toast or other fruit.
Convention rooms were taken care of with refreshments.
Staff was accomodating at the desk as well.
There are places to walk around the area. It hugs a mountain. A friend of ours ran into some wild pigs (Havalinas) and had to jump over a fence to get away. It added to his tales he told at dinnertime. There were hummingbirds at the front entrance that came right up to us and on the walk around the hotel (Costa Hummingbirds).
We had a wonderful time. In the morning, the sun came over the mountain near the hotel in such a way that it lit up another mountain range a golden color every morning.
It wasn't till the end of the week that we discovered just north of the hotel was a post office, a grocery store and a pharmacy.
We found great restaurants in the area. Being vegetarians, we found an impressive number of restaurants that catered to us.

I stayed at the El Conquistador for a large event. The booking and check-in went easily, although it was a bit of a challenge to find my hotel room since it was late at night and I had to drive around the back of the complex and the building numbers weren't illuminated. Plus the room numbering was a bit confusing (In building 3, room 3200 would mean the third building, second floor...or something like that).

But I was thrilled with my room. I had a 1-king hotel room and it was very spacious and well kept. The bed was nice and I had a nice view from the room...plus it was far enough from the walkway that I didn't hear people talking whenever they walked by.

Housekeeping was the best I've ever encountered at any hotel. I was able to specify the time period I wanted them to come, and they always arrived when requested.

Plus I can't say enough about the food. The chef at the cafe put together a special vegetarian menu for the event and I've never tasted food so good in a hotel. My expectations were exceeded.

Although the hotel is about a half hour's drive from the airport, it is well situated. Biosphere 2 is about a half hour away, as is the Pima Air Museum.

All in all, I had a fantastic stay at this hotel and would return again.

  • Liked — The service I received and the amazing views.
  • Disliked — Trying to find my room on the first night.
  • Tips/Secrets — Check out Biosphere 2 and the Pima Air Museum while you're in the area.

We stayed at the Hilton El Conquistador over Christmas 2006. The pools are friendly for families with children, the property is nicely landscaped, and the views are nice.

When we entered our room it had been beat up. Somehow housekeeping didn't notice this? We asked that some things be fixed, but that others could wait (but please don't charge us later). Sure enough, the week after we checked out a large charge appeared on our credit card. We called and the Hilton said "it would investigage". The bottom line - after some hassle with voicemails, we got the extra charge reversed (nothing more).

The rooms are a bit worn. We had a steeply discounted rate, but it still wasn't worth it. Nickel and diming was common. The bed was horribly uncomfortable (turned out that the frame had been misaligned, not just our imaginations).

The breakfast buffet was nice, but the Lost Territory steakhouse was grossly overpriced.

Overall, with the exception of the kid friendly pools, we've enjoyed Loew's Ventana Resort more and would stay there instead next time.

  • Liked — Pool for kids.
  • Disliked — Rooms were beat up; nickel and dime attitude; overpriced.

I purposely made reservations over the telephone to make special arrangements: 2 king bed casitas with 2 attached 2 queen villas. I was given a price and reservation number. I specifically chose this resort because of this arrangement. When we arrived in the evening we were told that there were no such casitas available. After I insisted that the hotel must try to accommodate us, after 45 minutes they somehow found some vacant casitas and villas. I do not know what the problem was. Also, they were out of cribs for the children but did manage to "find" two after we called again the next day. We sent out laundry at 7am and were told we could expect it back at 6pm. We finally got it back the NEXT night after much runaround. Our last evening there we lost electricity for more than 3 hours and after asking for flashlights were presented with glosticks and no apology for the inconvenience. I could not recommend this resort because of the subpar service. Management needs to step up.

We stayed one night on October 31 on our way to the Grand Canyon. First impressions of the room was spacious, clean and very well decorated. We opted for the junior suite with a mountain view. The room was larger than what we expected it to be. The decor was well appointed and appropriate for that region. The bathrooms were typical size, but very nice. The view we had was to die for. Unbelievable views of the mountain range. Although the resort is close to shops and restaurants, we did not hear any traffic from the main road. We had cocktails at the Sundance grill's bar. Our bartender (Matt) made us the best margaritas I've ever had and he also gave us very valuable information about the local area too. With everything said, The Hilton El Conquistador is well worth every penny spent for a resort of this caliber. A job well done to all the staff at the resort. We had an enjoyable time and will definetly return.

  • Liked — The spacious junior suite room
  • Disliked — the patio area could be larger to accomidate a table to eat breakfasts or dinner
  • Tips/Secrets — If available, choose the junior suite with the mountain view. Just slightly more expensive, but worth it.

This hotel needs some improvements in two areas; hospitality and service...the grounds , pools. ,views are lovely however and i must say it is a fine place to relax. I left a very important piece of luggage at the airport and for the room rate i paid i expected something more than a grouchy, uninterested concierge. She obviously saw my despair but treated me at arms length and very slowly went to work to help me find an escort service for the luggage,, The most disappointing aspect of my trip was the nickle and dime attitude where even a morning cup of coffee at the bar will cost you whereas most upscale resorts provide it with a smile....and dont ask for butter with your rubber bagel because its not at the bar but 7 minutes away at the restaurant. comeon hilton crew ,,you really need to cater to your guests.
