“Beautiful setting, gracious resort”
Reviewed April 8, 2010

My husband, nine-year-old son and I stayed in this resort for one night after a week of southern Arizona outdoor adventures. It was quite a treat to stay in such a nice resort and soak up some pampering. The grounds are lovely, staff friendly and amenities are plentiful, but there are some things to be aware of.

Positives:
+It is a full service resort with hiking trails, spa, golf, tennis and many other amenities. There is a children's program so mom and dad can golf while the kids have their fun. Front desk gives guests a calendar of events for the week at check in.
+There are several options for eating on site, although they are not all easy to find (see below). We ate at the Canyon Cafe for dinner and breakfast (not normally open for dinner, but this was spring break). The food was good, although the portions were HUGE.
+The spa is lovely – I got some pampering there and it was first rate.
+The beds are comfortable.
+A big, luxurious bathroom with a TV! (my son’s favorite amenity)

Negatives:
-The resort is enormous and the layout confusing. I got lost several times. Our room was near the end of one wing, which meant a ten-minute walk to get anywhere.
-Be aware, at certain times of the year the resort is very popular with families, so expect the chaos that comes with that.
-It appears there is insufficient soundproofing between rooms – we could hear the kids in the next room loud and clear.
-You have to pay extra for internet.
-Others noted that parking is $9/day, but we were not charged. Front desk did know we had a car; he gave me a map and circled the lot closest to our room.

Overall, I would stay here again and recommend it to others. A very good value on Priceline.

My wife and I just stayed three nights in Tucson at the Loews Ventana Resort and were extremely happy with the resort. Our accommodations were great including the largest bath tub I have ever seen in a hotel room, not to mention the great view of the golf course and city lights. The room was updated and extremely comfortable. The lodge has a great large sitting area that was perfect to read the newspaper in the mornings or have drinks in the evening. The Barista in the coffee shop made me a great fruit smoothie every morning which was not on the menu. We had dinner at the Flying V which I would highly recommend. The workout room is a $10 charge per room, but it is really nice with lemon water, cold towels, and a sauna in the looker room. The staff was very friendly and willing to help from check-in to check-out. The location is good, convenient to several restaurants and some shopping. I will stay here again on my next visit to Tucson.

For a resort-type hotel, I was disappointed to find our room was no nicer than many I could find for half the price or less. Furthermore, immediately upon check in, we were hit with all the "extras" that many others include. $9/night to park (in empty lots), $10/day for internet, the chocolate chip cookies in the room (though unlabeled) were $6 for about 4 cookies and so much more was extra.
The dining choices were also disappointing, the only appealing restaurant on property didn't have a table for us and wasn't serving outside until April 9th, even though it was 80 degrees outside! The other choice was appealing as a lobby/bar area but not as a dining area and the food was strictly upscale Coffee shop. Apparently there is no formal dining room on the property.

We are Loews youfirst members, but booked the hotel through priceline and got a fantastic rate. We were able to cajole the front desk to provide free internet (which is included with the youfirst membership, but excluded on priceline reservations) and were made happy. The pool is so well maintained, they even provide suntan lotion gratis, and the staff exceptional and helpful. They have a policy that when you share a meal dish they split it in the kitchen (with double sides) and only charge an extra dollar. Great burgers! Noticed that when the pool staff were asked a question unrelated to their job that they didnt know the answer to they always tried to find out. There is no charge for self-parking. We were not able to get them to comp us for the fitness center otherwise the location, service, food and room are top notch.

We just got back from a week at the Loews Ventana................what a treat! The location in the Catalina foothills is perfect. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Not super fancy but definitely very comfortable.
The pool area and grounds were superb. The mini walk up to the waterfall with the description of some of the desert flora and fauna was well done and well maintained.
The lobby was large and airy with windows that offered impressive vistas of the Santa Catalina mountains directly behind the property.
The best part of the stay was the attentive staff everywhere from the pool , to the lobby/front desk , to the housekeeping staff.
A great stay and we would go back in a heartbeat!

Although the resort is a little dated I had a really great stay here recently. Rooms were fair sized, but expensive, and I don't get the complaints about the tub, it is huge! Food is really good and I thought very fairly priced, I was expecting prices to be much higher given the resort setting but I thought good value. Pool area is very nice and service good. I think it is a bit of a joke to charge for internet in the room when charging the rates they do for the rooms, but this is typical of the higher end brands.

We had an excellent meal at a local restaurant called El Charro Cafe, I highly recommend this place for dinner also.
