“Beautiful vistas”
Reviewed January 30, 2012

I attended a conference at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. The accomodations were above expectations, and the views were simply breathtaking. The atmosphere was laid back and quiet, which was perfect for our conference. The people were very friendly and helpful. i loved it - and i did not get to enjoy much of the outdoor offerings due to meetings. The Flying V restaurant offered excellent service and attention (i have food allergies, so this is important). i would gladly travel to this location again.

Room Tip: Stayed in 4258 - the views are absolutely beautiful!!

The hotel is nestled beautifully into the hills at the NE edge of Tucson. Stroll around on its paved paths, pause to feed the fish in the pond, and climb up to the waterfall and you'll really get why Lowes Ventana Canyon has won a number of awards for its gardens and its integration with a natural setting. It's beautifully set into its surroundings.

My wife and I stayed here for a week in late November to escape from cold weather further north. We were impressed with the uniformly high quality of the food, the selection, and the service in the main restaurant. We ate breakfasts there daily, lunches frequently, and dinner once. We did find ourselves at a loss to figure out on which days the breakfast buffet was served, but in the end we were able to get what we wanted from the menu for about the same price.

The concierge was very helpful, giving us ideas on where to hike and bike. We arrived just after a cold snap in November, so we didn't try out the pool. Not many others did either, but every morning at six there was someone out there sprucing it up for the day.

Our room was a good size, comfy, clean, and well furnished, though it seemed smaller than those depicted in photos of the place. And a bit darker, too. Marble floors in the bathroom and a sort of double tub gave that space a feeling of luxury. The coral colored walls in the room added a sense of richness, but there was some curious dirt on the ceiling.

We were charged for drinking two or four pints of Fiji bottled water that were absent the room when we arrived, but the desk clerk graciously removed these from the bill when we objected at checkout. We found internet service to be intolerably slow, especially since it was an add-on expense. And our room was just at the edge of feeling a bit threadbare in places. Also, there was a darkness to our room and to many of the common areas that I'm sure really makes sense in the middle of summer, but it can feel a little oppressive on cool, short winter days. In a cheaper hotel, these would be quibbles, but this is a five star resort.

We got a reasonably good rate and are very glad we stayed there. We will recommend it to friends. Next time we visit Tucson and stay in this part of the city, however, I think we might try the Westin.

Stayed here for three nights and liked it overall. Plain and simple. Maybe I expected much more as a lot of my friends told me great things about the place but found it a bit characterless. A very nice and quiet location but groups staying there made it a bit noisy. I had to try hard but still could not find young people in the resort. Best thing - it did not set my plastic on fire so was happy. Housekeeping was excellent and I loved the huge room which to my surprise was the base category room. I was sure it was a suite. It is difficult to fault the place excepting that I do not really think a pullout bed makes sense in a luxury resort. The management did not have a clue as to how my soft bed could be turned into a hard bed. Loved the following: 1. Room size. 2. Room amenities. 3. bathroom size. 4. bathroom amenities. 5. A nice balcony with view. 6. Coffee and tea choice in the room and the timely replenishments. 7. Location. 8. Price. As to what I did not like .... I hate to mention it because for the price and everything else it is much better than a lot of places ranked higher here. I did not like being charged for internet (please add 20 $ to the room rate) and I am still wondering why had the pullout bed in such a lovely place.

Room Tip: Mountain View Rooms for sure.

My family (including two kids ages 6 and 8) spent Thanksgiving here. What a surprise! I expected a lackluster Thanksgiving meal but got a fantastic one instead. We loved the views, the nearby hiking and the onsite trail with waterfall. Staff was helpful and friendly. Even the dog approved!

Room Tip: First floor if you bring a pet works well.

The ranking of this resort is unfortunate especially when compared to places like the Country Inn and Suites. This place is in a class by itself.
The price is very reasonable for such a high end resort. The staff have obviously received excellent training . The extra charges are vey rentable such as use of the fully equipped spa and gym for $10 per room. The food is excellent and the grounds are unbelievable. There is a full nature walk on the grounds and the Ventana Canyon walk starts at the end of the parking lot. The Sabino Canyon hikes are only 3 miles away and the resort provides a shuttle.

We really have no complaints about this hotel at all and believe that Tip Advisor should adjust its ratings so that like hotels are compared with like .

This has been an excellent experience!

This hotel is very nice but it could definately use some updates. It is a little loud in the hallways but not unbearable. I stayed here using a "Groupon" and felt as though I didn't get that great of a value. I felt the groupon was overpriced after my stay, I can't imagine paying full price.
