“A Great Stop for the Airport”
Reviewed February 27, 2010

Stopped here our last night before returning home and it was everything you could want in an airport hotel. The rooms were very modern and spacious and the staff was very friendly. Typical free Hampton Inn breakfast as well as free Internet service. The hotel could not be more convenient to the airport. An excellent choice when flying out of Tucson.

This is your standard Hampton Inn with the following pluses - It is convenient to the airport, our room was exceptionally clean and the staff was consistently friendly and helpful. Our room had a king size bed, small refrigerator and microwave. The breakfasts were good but not exceptional. They included one or two hot items, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit and baked goods. The employees working the breakfast area were friendly and did a great job of keeping the food stations filled and the area clean. The location is near the airport but not particularly near tourist destinations - you will definitely need a car if sightseeing. We stayed here at the beginning and at the end of our trip to Tucson with travel in between.

I've traveled to Tucson several times for business in the last few years and have always stayed near the airport. The Hampton is (or was, see below) my favorite hotel to stay at as long as I could get a good rate. It's not enough nicer than some of the nearby hotels for me to stay there if I can get a significantly better price elsewhere, and I haven't stayed there a single time in 2009 (when I've been to Tucson at least half a dozen times) mostly because of that. The breakfast was always ok (for a hotel continental breakfast). The internet is always a bit tricky in nearly the same way I experience at many Hampton Inns -- in the evening it mostly works but sometimes you have to enter the password several times, particularly if your laptop or phone goes to sleep. The next morning the wireless may or may not work at all. (Do they change the password every morning I wonder?)

One thing to watch out for: one time this year I did book here, online through the Hampton Inn web site, for a business trip. The reservation said no fee if canceled by 6pm. Around noon that day plans changed and I wasn't going to be in Tucson that night. When I called to cancel they said they had a 24hrs in advance cancellation policy, not by 6pm as stated on the reservation. They did waive the fee, but given the (at times rapidly changing) nature of my business travel I pretty much never book at a hotel where I can't cancel the same day, so even though I like the place this is likely to keep me from booking a room here again.

If you do stay here and want to eat within walking distance, pass on the nearby Radisson. The restaurant at the Best Western across the street is usually ok. If you have the time you can find much better food downtown, there isn't much nearby other than hotel restaurants and fast food chains.

Clean nice hotel 5 minutes from airport. There are 8 hotels lining the same street. Hampton Inn include breakfast and free Wifi. The same owner of this hotel owns the Best Western across the street, and offers a 10% discount in the BW restaurant (which is very good and provided truly excellent service). Staff at Hampton was suberb including van driver.

Have stayed at this location multiple times. It is the typical Hampton property.
We had no issues with staying here and would stay here again.
Airplane noice is very low or nonexistent.
You do need a car to get around. There is very little close by.

Stayed at the Hampton Inn Tucson airport for three nights whilst on a road tour of Arizona. You definitely need a car at this location as it is miles outside Tucson and the immediate local area has little of interest. There is some aircraft noise at the hotel but it is generally very low and not a problem, unless the ANG are flying in their F18's! they are noisy but don't fly late into the evening. It is however very convenient for those who require a hotel close to the airport and the Hampton offers a shuttle service on request. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was of a very good size, clean and tidy. The pool area is good and towels are supplied. This hotel is very good value for money and your room rate even includes wireless internet access, a benefit some much more expensive hotel chains could learn from. Breakfast was included for 'free' so you get the basics. Free parking too. Bottom line is we had no complaints about the hotel at all. It was very good value for money and would have no hesitation in using this hotel chain. BARGAIN.

Driving cross country on a budget and needed to stay in Tucson. I'm really, really finicky about hotels and like luxury ones, which are unfortunately outside my budget. Chose this hotel based on other reviews and it is indeed very clean and comfortable. Being at the airport, the planes are audible but muted. Front desk staff was very polite and accommodating -- initially I had a room with a door to the adjoining room and could hear everything in the room next door. I requested to be moved and the staff said absolutely and got me a new room right away.

I recommend asking for a room with no adjoining room when you make reservations. Another minor issue is limited selection of restaurants nearby -- fast food chains and questionable-looking local places. Not a problem if you're only here short-term, though. I survived on Wendy's baked potato and salad. :)

  • Liked — cleanliness, wireless internet in room, fitness center, breakfast
  • Disliked — dreary location with few food options
