I just got back from a 5 night stay at the Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort. We spent 4 nights in Room #38 which was a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suite and our first night was spent in a smaller room. The mountain views were great from our rooms and from the pool and the Sunday Brunch was awesome. Now for the negative. Room 38 has 3 phones, only 1 of the phones worked and although we mentioned it to the staff our first night the broken phones never got fixed (for the amount of $$ you spend to stay here you kind of expect the phones to work). Also the jacuzzi by the hotel's pool was broken and being repaired for 3 days while we were there (again you pay all this $$ so you kind of expect it to at least be filled with water and working when you want to use it). Some of the furnishings also need to be updated and the gate for the fireplace often crashed to the floor. Finally we felt bad for the breakfast chef, because he appeared to have absolutely no help during breakfast and he was in charge of cooking various omelets, refilling all of the food, delivering food to the tables, and pretty much running the whole show by himself with no other help.

This physical plant has a lovely setting, but it is HIGHLY overrated. The furninshings and equipment in the rooms did not equal those found in other area hotels of the same price range. We wanted atmosphere, but we needed more comfortable places to sit, a phone elsewhere than next to the bed (we had a suite with a desk that cried out for another phone), a living room layout condusive to both a TV and a fireplace, a toilet that didn't have to be flushed several times each time it was used, and attention from management above the office staff when serious things went wrong one after the other.

We recently stayed at the Hacienda after hearing good things about it. We were so happy. It is not a franchise and when you are there you know you are in the Southwest. The grounds are lovely, the room decor unique, the staff is friendly and the food at The Grill was sumptuous. We enjoyed sunsets on the patio with a glass of wine from their great wine list and dinner with jazz outside on the bar patio. We will return again

After 11 years living in Phoenix, and searching for something other than the big "corporate" spas, we stumbled upon this historical little resort in Tucson named Hacienda del Sol. Formerly a private girls school in the early 1900's, this resort has transformed itself into a picturesque haven sitting atop a desert knoll with a spectacular view of the Catalina Mountains. The ground gardens were spectacular and immaculately groomed. The arthitecture, decor, and ambiance of the common areas and the rooms spoke volumes of the staying power of an elegant past. The rooms were beautifully decorated in a bright blend of southwestern architecture and strong spanish influence. The pool area has a view of the Catalinas that is simply breathtaking.

The restaurant at the resort is quite popular among locals seeking a scrumptous gourmet meal served with flair, style, and wonderfully attended. The food was creatively delicious and plentiful.

The service and attention to detail at the resort cannot be rivaled by the larger resorts in the surrounding area. Although there is no onsite spa, massages are available upon appointment.

If you are looking for an authentic taste of the old southwest, a peaceful and tranquil haven, good food, and spectacular natural scenery - this is the place for you.

We give it a BIG A+.

What a place! The location can not be beat. Close to all the new happenings in the Foothills. Resturants nearby were memorable, and the views from every turn are unbelieveable. The Hacienda brings back the old days of movie star visits and horseback cookouts, but at the same time is really quite elegant. My wife and I loved it. Check out the view from the hot tub.

I have now stayed at Hacienda del Sol twice in the past 6 months and both times have been a wonderful experience. I am amazed to read the bad reviews. I am a seasoned traveler and have stayed at many 5 star hotels and resorts. Hacienda del Sol is charming, beautiful, the service has been nothing but excellent, the grounds are stunning and the food at the restaurant fabulous. My husband and I love to sit outside at the bar under he stars and listen to jazz music while eating gourmet food. What a great combination! Hacienda del Sol is not like a cookie cutter large scale resort. It is small, more intimate and more personal. We will definetly stay there again.
