“What a dump”
Reviewed February 21, 2007

I've eaten here a few times and the food's been pretty good. However I do not recommend staying here. It is loud and noisy and there are security staff everywhere trying to contain the nightclub that spills out into the foyer and bar most nights.
The area is a little rough and there is no safe parking. It is cheap however and I'll pretty much put up with anything to save a few bucks. You get what you pay for. No sleep, no comforts, not nice.

I stayed at the Hotel Congress in Mid July 2006. The hotel is old, quaint, and clean however there is only a second floor and it is above late night bars and private party rooms. There was a booming rock band just below my room for a wedding---and I was told that was the quiet part of the hotel. After 10pm the band finished, but the bar is open until 2am and may rooms are directly over it. Did I mention the train?

Downtown Tucson is also still a slum. My room faced housing projects and there are disturbed homeless people everywhere. I took a walk around the neighborhood in the morning and found it to be incredibly depressing. There were no good restauarants nearby. The famous 24 hour "Grill" had a funky odor and nobody waited on me after several minutes so I left.

Also bad is that Hotel Congress has no airconditioning. I am an AZ native and evap does not do much in mid july

Tucson is a great place, and I go there often. Downtown however is gross and there are many nicer places to stay for even more reasonable prices.
