“Fantastic views”

A Mountain (Sentinel Peak)
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Many people bike or hike up here, but we drove. You can take a picnic to the top. The view all around Tucson is fantastic from this elevation.

We had a good time on Sentinel Peak last night. The drive up is a little scary as there is no guard rail and the road is a bit narrow, but it's worth the drive. We got there just after dark, parked right under the "A" and hiked up to it. The views of the city with the lights was awesome. The part of the hill with the "A" seemed steep in the dark, but no one fell or had any trouble.

After playing on the "A" for a bit, we drove around to the back side and climbed the trail to the top of the peak. Not many people did that (we were the only ones there this particular evening), but it's well worth the 15 minutes to get to the top, see the view, and hike down to the top of the "A" for more fun. It was fun watching people try to climb up the "A" while looking down from the top.

In the past, the mountain has been kind of a hangout for less-than-desirables, but we had no problems. I think the early closing (8pm) helped clean it up.

All in all it was a good time.

Easy drive to the top, plenty of parking, and the views of the City are spectacular! Take you out-of-town visitors for a panoramic view of Tucson.

Be careful on the drive up because not much of a guard rail combined with the tendency to look at the view on the way up. From "A" mountain you get an excellent view of the city and the surrounding mountains. There is a primitive picnic area on the flat area on the Sough side of the upper level. It has views while you eat. Best to picnic at your vehicle. If you are going to be in town for a few days it is a good early stop to orientate your self with the area.

You feel like you can see the world from up here. Fantastic. It is a great way to get visitor's oriented to our Old Pueblo. And I think I saw the Gateway Arch from the top - but it was a really clear day!!!
