“Best sushi in Tucson”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

This is by far our favorite sushi place in Tucson. We usually eat in the Sushimatsu side because of their extensive sushi selection and they also offer everything on the Yoshimatsu menu. It's our number one place to take vegetarians and vegans, as they have a large assortment of vegan and vegetarian options that are clearly marked on the menu. The lunch specials are a great value for the price, and they are filling as well. It can get crowded at dinner time and they usually only have 1 or 2 servers for up to 10 groups, but the servers and sushi chefs are all very friendly and efficient, and will make an effort to connect with you and get to know you. Some of our favorite items are the yummy roll, spicy salmon roll, avocado roll, ramen, vegetable tempura, unagi-don, kara age and fried rice. Great atmosphere, excellent service, amazing food, and reasonable prices.

“Best Sushi in Tucson (so far)”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

I've lived in Tucson for just over 2 years, been to several sushi restaurants, and Yoshimatsu is the best (so far).

I've had sushi all over the US, and Japan. Whenever I try a new sushi restaurant, I begin with the basics (maguro, and hamachi), then branch out depending on what's on the menu.

Simply put, Yoshimatsu had what I felt to be the best quality fish, generous portions, good quality rice, and an excellent menu offering a wide variety of dishes. There are other sushi restaurants in town that also offer good quality fish, etc., but are FAR more expensive than Yoshimatsu.

“Don't let the word healthy dissuade you...”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

For years we've passed on this place because of the word 'healthy' in the name. We thought it was watered-down Japanese food. Boy we could really kick ourselves. This place is great. It home-style cooking and reminds me of local Japanese restaurants in Hawaii. It's counter service and then you sit and wait for your food. The menu is extensive. There is also a small sushi only area with table service but you can get either menu no matter where you sit. I liked the bento boxes and the sushi was very fresh.

“We found it....the best sushi in Tucson!”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

We are sushi lovers and have had the pleasure of sampling it across the world. Tucson (where we live 3-4 months of the year) has a plethora of sushi restaurants. We tried many...like, MANY! And then we discovered it (well, we looked at some Internet sites). Simply the best sashimi I have tasted in southern Arizona. Yoshimatsu. We had a sampling of appetizers, salads, sushi, sashimi and special rolls. This restaurant has simply the best, and very reasonablly priced sushi in Tucson. No restaurant (of the 17 I tried) came close. Even their 'house' sake happens to be my favourite. The restaurant has a right and left entrance, depending if you'd rather eat in a Japanese restaurant or a sushi restaurant....excellent idea. As far as the bad reviews, I can give any of you about 15 supposedly 'good' sushi restaurants which are mediocre at best. This as good as any sushi in Osaka, Kobe or Tokyo, never mind San Francisco, Seattle and our home in Vancouver..AND we happened to have excellent service.
We will become regulars. Melt in your mouth fish, does it get any better!

“Very good Japanese cuisine and sushi.”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

Very casual atmosphere. Good food. Sushi bar in second dining room. Prices average. Do not expect lots of table service. This is a do-it-yourself restaurant.
