“A vacation in itself!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

It is hard to image a more enjoyable property at which to stay. Rooms are nice enough and quiet. The shower head can accommodate a six-foot tall person (although the toilet is made for someone under 5'6") and has plenty of water pressure. Beds are comfortable. I found the value to be better here than cheaper properties. I.E. We stayed at a Springhill Suites the next night and got no sleep due to noise and had a terrible experience. The extra $100 to stay here is worth it.

The Signature Grill is OK. We only ate breakfast there. I preferred the eggs/tamales off the menu over the buffet. Pretty pricey for breakfast. Not really worth the cost.

The best part of our stay was the evening on the patio. Food at Salud is very good. The free tequila toasts in the evening was a nice touch. Also, the guitar players were great and the music was not too loud as to affect our conversation or enjoyment. Crystal at Salud was great and her service is second-to-none!

A bonus was the trail across the street. Great saguaro's plus deer and javalina's.

We liked the property so much we stayed there on our return trip and are now planning to return as our destination.

This hotel is located outside of downtown Tucson, up on a ridge. Great views and nice property. Standard rooms show some wear and tear but the suites are fantastic (stayed in both). Very nice pools and the outdoor patio can't be beat.

Plenty to do: golf, hike, swim, spa, relax. Organized activities as well: tequila shots (really!), a morning Native ritual, hiking.

Highly recommended if you can get a room at a decent price.

Room Tip: Anything with a desert view.

I have stayed at this resort 3 times now with the most recent stay in October 2012. Whilst the resort is in a great location for peace and tranquility the standards are starting to slide further from my last stay and its becoming a poor standard of a JW Marriott resort. The rooms are now in need of refurbishment, they are quite dull and dated compared to other offerings in the area. We found the bed extremely uncomfortable and pillows totally unsatisfactory, whilst they promote a pillow top mattress you actually get a pillow top mattress protector and not a full mattress which you find in most Marriott hotels (and most others) as standard. We had this protector changed during our stay and there was some improvement so may be some rooms are better than others but still not what I expect from this quality of accommodation. The lobby still looks pretty good, but the patio area furnishings need replacing and other public areas need some attention such as carpet cleaning and replacement. The one great experience at this resort is the Primo restaurant, fabulous food and service, a real delight.

My sons go to U of Arizona and I travel to see them in Tucson and have stayed in a wide variety of properties in the area. Two stand out, the Arizona Inn and Marriott's Starr Pass Resort and Spa. The location is close enough to the University but is situated in the foothills among the beautiful Cactus and dessert landscape. The pool and spa areas are lovely and the food is good.I had an excellent message there. The rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable although you might want to bring your own pillow as theirs are very hard. I would recommend this hotel for those wanting a resort experience in Tucson. We also left behind an Iphone 5 and the security detail was really on top of it and responsive in assisting us in locating it. Overall the service is excellent.

Room Tip: We prefer the rooms overlooking the pool and city. You are actually looking out at the landscape whi...

My stays with Marriott are mostly for business, but I usually take a day or two to simply be a guest and relax. This was my first trip to Tucson, and Arizona. The facilities were very well kept. The staff was very accommodating, even fulfilling my request to order from one of the other restaurant's menu while out on the patio lounge. As a runner, I was keenly interested in running in the hills and canyons, but the concierge had my best interest in mind and gave me some valuable cautions about the loose, jagged and narrow terrain. While I did not see any wildlife during the run (middle of the day), I did see the javelinas and deer, and was informed of the bobcats and rattlesnakes that also live in and around the grounds. I got out and did a short run through the canyons around the property and the concierge was right, bring trail shoes and be cautious. I appreciated that. It ended up being a great run/walk and suited my needs while away from my usual haunts. The pool and water park were relatively quiet, and a welcome sight from the heat of the day. And the daily toast on the patio to celebrate the local history and libations made for a fun start to the evenings. I will definitely book a personal vacation here.

Room Tip: They have rooms with and without small balconies. There are rooms that face the pools/golf course...

It was a treat to read about your experience at our resort. What little time I have spent on trails has been appreciated by the surrounding beauty. The Tucson Mountain Park is over 200,000 acres and has over 60 miles of trails. I am please to hear that our staff had you best interests in mind. We sincerely appreciate that you chose to spend an extra day to relax with us and hope to welcome you back in the near future.

My husband and I stayed at this resort with our son who is a student at the University of Arizona. The resort was fantastic from the moment we drove up. Every single person that works there couldn't do enough to please us. The room was very nice and the bed comfortable with a down comforter and down pillows. We had a very nice view of the pools and mountains. The bath room was also very nice. The architecture of this hotel was a wonderful and relaxing resort. There were many different places to sit and enjoy the view or eat at one of the outdoor restaurants. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of healthy shrimp tacos at a restaurant near the lazy river. We relaxed in the lazy river which was so much fun. The spa & work out facilities were fine. The hotel puts out different foods in cups for the guests to enjoy during the day. Granola in the morning, fruit at mid-day, and mixed nuts in the evening. There is also prickly pear lemonade and infused water most of the day. We loved our stay at this resort and plan on returning. Also, the breakfast buffet was superb.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the pools and mountains.

Better late than never. We spendtthe Labor Day weekend here and had a great time. The property is huge, so much to do and is located close to everything you could want to do in Tucson. Golf course was phenominal, water parks were awesome, the whole experience was wonderful. Rooms are large, amenities are wonderful, staff is polite and genuine. There are daily activities for everyone in the family.
