We stayed at the Azure Gate over Martin Luther King weekend. We frequently stay at B&Bs, and this is one of our favorites. Dennis was great. He provided good advice on restaurants, sightseeing, and wildlife photography.

The Inn is located in a rural area about 20 minutes from downtown and the airport. The grounds are large, several acres, and are covered with succulents and cactus. If you go out after dark, take a flashlight. There aren't streetlights, so you can see lots of stars, and maybe a bobcat.

We stayed in the Saguaro room. It is one of two rooms in the main building. There are two others which are separate buildings with kitchens. Our bed was partly made of saguaro wood (yes wood, how do you think cactus that tall stand up?). Plenty of closet space and a bathroom with a full shower and two sinks. Our room also had a patio and a saddle, which looked like kids would love it.

Dennis is a very good chef, with great presentation skills. Instead of good home cooking or a continental breakfast, it feels more like a good restaurant in a comfortable setting where you can wear your bunny slippers. We had a southwestern omelet with a fruit appetizer this morning. When we were making reservations he asked our preferences, and any dietary restrictions (e.g., allergies).

Our host had interesting stories, and it quickly seemed like visiting an old friend. We were there for two days, but wish it had been longer. There is a nice pool, a fireplace, a piano, and quite a library of books and videos. Dennis is a wildlife photographer, and has several books of work. He also has a lot of greeting cards with pictures of things like javelina and ocelots.

Mid January is a fine time to go to Tucson. Very pleasant for hiking or outdoor attractions. We went to the Arizona Sonora Wildlife Museum, Saguaro Natl Park, and the Pima Air Museum. All within about 20 minute of the Inn. All pretty good.

We really enjoyed this B and B. My wife and I have stayed at several over the years and this one was definitely one of our favorites. The only con we had was it was a bit cool in our room at night and in the morning. The breakfast was excellent and the location is very scenic. Well worth stopping in for a stay!

My wife and I went to Tucson for 48hours of kidless relaxation and we stayed at teh Azure due to friends recommendations. it was AMAZING! the grounds are beautiful, very close to the hiking trails and Catalina mountions. Not to mention Tucson is small enough that downtown felt close as well. Dennis is an amazing cook and his breakfasts are not only delicious but we never ate a lunch. We can not wait to head back to Tucson for more R&R there.
We stayed in the Santa Anna guesthouse which is attached to the main house but has seperate everything. it was a great room - the only thing to pay attention to is the spiral staircase (if you do not like stairs) becasue of the bathroom on the main level.

My husband and I arrived at The Azure Gate with no booking - just on the off chance they would have a free bedroom for the night. We actually arrived on New Year's day at around 4.30 pm and met Dennis and Christine in their driveway as they were on their way out! Luckily, they had a cancelation for 4 days (and we wanted to stay for 4 days!) - Absolute fate! Dennis and Christine put off going out that night to show us around and make us feel at home; something that was way beyond the call of duty when we didn't even have a booking!
Our whole stay was just fantastic - the house and garden are beautiful, the other guests were lots of fun and we all "bonded" over the AMAZING breakfasts (you cannot rave enough about Denny's breakfasts!) and Christine gave us really good advice on where to go and what to do. Anyone staying with Denny and Christine will just have a fabulous time. You'll feel like one of the family, but they give you plenty of space as well.

Everything about the Azure Gate is beautiful, including the breakfast which tastes as good as it looks. We loved our room with stunning desert and mountain views. We stayed at three B&B's on this trip and the Azure Gate was definitely the best. Dennis and Christine provide a first rate B&B experience as well as comprehensive and reliable information about and directions to area attractions and dining .

Location: near the eastern edge of the valley, so don't stay here if you want to be within walking distance of anything; however, the setting is quiet and in the midst of lush desert foliage and lots of desert critters, so that's a big plus. Breakfasts: absolutely top-notch gourmet, served at a beautifully laid table that varied daily. Only downsides were lack of fresh-baked goods and the single meal time of 9 am. Value: Stayed in a smaller room in the main house, and got a discount for a week-long stay; very reasonable price given the high quality breakfasts and other extras. Only downside to room was it's shared wall with kitchen (very noisy in the morning). Extras: Cookies/chocolates and other treats with tea available all the time; an extremely well-stocked video library, with in-room player, wireless internet, lots of sightseeing info, very accommodating and friendly hosts.

Our 3rd time there. LOVE THIS PLACE AND LOVE THE HOSTS. Denis prepares an amazing breakfast. We stay in a lovely cottage but all the rooms are wonderful.
