Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast

I can't believe I'm only now getting around to writing a review--my husband and I have been lavishing praise on the Azure Gate for the last six months!

We went to Tucson for our honeymoon, and stayed two nights at the Azure Gate in the Saguaro Room. Unfortunately, my husband had booked our honeymoon through NWA, so we had two nights at the Loews Ventana Canyon as well--but I wish we'd stayed at the Azure Gate the whole time! It's a MUCH more personal experience than the Ventana Canyon. The grounds are GORGEOUS, and Dennis and Christine are wonderful hosts. Our breakfast was simply divine...we gushed about it for weeks afterwards. We got lots of recommendations on places to hike from Dennis and Christine, as well as good dinner reservations. If you go to Tucson, make sure you have dinner at Red Sky--it is phenomenal.

In short, we were in love with the Azure Gate, and we can't wait to return. Tucson is such an amazing place, and there is NO better place to stay than the Azure Gate.

We stayed at the Azure Gate over President's weekend 2007 - and have already rebooked for next year! We had a great stay in a beautifully decorated room in the main house. In addition, guests are encouraged to use a fully stocked library, a lovely expansive living room, and wonderful outdoor terraces with lots of bird and animal life flying around. Breakfasts consist of fruit, juice, coffee and extremely fabulous breakfast creations lovingly cooked by Dennis. The food is wonderful and tailored to the food preferences of the guests. All of the guest amenities have been thoughtfully provided - a refrigerator stocked with cold drinks, always a tray of freshly baked cookies, and a large display of fruit. Both Christine and Dennis are wonderful hosts and happy to share their local knowledge with their guests.

As an experienced B & B traveler, this is one of the best B&B's we have ever encountered.

My partner and I stayed at the Azure Gate over Thanksgiving weekend 2006. This bed and breakfast has it all--a tranquil setting, beautiful rooms/guest houses, friendly, knowledgeable hosts, and the world's best breakfasts. In the main house, there are two guest rooms and some public space that includes a library with hundreds of books and movies that guests may borrow, a chess room, and a sitting room where guests can find guidebooks, restaurant recommendations and driving directions, as well as information about local wildlife and hiking. There also are two guest houses with living areas, kitchenettes and sleeping lofts that have separate parking and private patios. Prices are very reasonable.

The breakfasts are like the fanciest brunches you've ever seen or eaten--beautifully plated and just as tasty. One morning we started with a poached pear and then followed that with a poached egg atop a southwest crabcake. The breakfasts are short on bad carbs and long on high quality protein--great for launching a day of hiking, golfing, etc..

All guests eat together at 9 a.m., although they provide a continental breakfast for those who want or need to eat earlier (but it would be foolhardy to miss the real breakfast).

We enjoyed the other guests tremendously too.
My only complaint is that they close the pool from November to late spring--for those of us coming from the cold north, the weather is still fine for swimming!

The Azure Gate rates tops oF all B&B's we have stayed at and we have stayed at many. Dennis and Christine are experts in hospitality, friendliness, attentiveness to details and the food is definitely gourmet. From the moment we arrived and they met us at our car to welcome us til they walked us to our car upon our departure, we felt like we were close family coming to visit. They make their B&B so comfortable that we felt totally at home and free to roam at all hours of the day and night. They gave us excellent directions and suggestions on places to visit, eat, and shop; The afternoon snacks were a great surprise along with a stocked refrigerator with assorted beverages available to guests. When making our reservation Dennis asked about our breakfast likes/dislikes and made a point of telling us every morning at breakfast what he had planned to cook for breakfast the next day and asked if that sounded good to us. We always agreed but am sure he would have adjusted his menu had we expressed any dislikes. The rooms were immaculate and comfortable and being on 5 acres of desert provided an excellent reprise from the city and allowed the enjoyment of all the sounds of nature. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and look forward to returning again. Also, they are very helpful and answer emails questions in a very timely manner.

My significant other and I have been guests at the Azure Gate 4 or 5 times now, and we have come to regard the innkeepers, Dennis and Christine, as friends. I have stayed at alot of B&B's in my time, and Dennis and Christine have created the "perfect" B&B. They clearly have fun in this venture, and it shows, from the wonderful decor, to the gourmet breakfasts, to the lovely pool and patio where you can take a relaxing swim, or sit under the covered patio and watch the hummingbirds drink from the feeders. Add a good book and a cool drink, and it's a little piece of heaven! I highly recommend a stay at the Azure Gate!

Hacienda style B & B with great attention to all the details. Attentive, friendly hosts, on a gorgeous 5 acre property lovingly tended. Great ambiance, tasteful decor. Watch the birds, laze around the pool - enjoy the extensive video library. Fantastic gourmet breakfasts. One of the nicest B & B's we have stayed in.

Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast is a relatively new B&B establishment, but there are no new-business kinks to be worked out in this glorious retreat in the desert! The property is a virtual aviary filled with quail and myriad sounds from desert creatures. It's close to restaurants and shopping, but since it's situated on more than four acres chock full of fascinating desert cactus, it feels more like a secluded sanctuary. We stayed two nights in the Catalina guest house, one of two guest houses on the property. There are also two rooms in the main house available. We expected privacy and comfort after seeing the pictures on the web site, but when we arrived we were blown away by the magnificent views from the huge Palladian window, the extra touches like complimentary beverages and fresh rosemary on the soap, the crisp sheets, and the patio, ramada, and rooftop deck that were all part of the Catalina experience. Dennis and Christine are consummate hosts and are obviously enjoying every minute of their new venture. They are extremely interesting people to chat with over the terrific breakfast prepared by Dennis. It almost seems a crime to deconstruct the beautiful edible still life that is the breakfast. Not only is it a treat for the eyes, the breakfasts are flavorful and hearty. For a really special stay in Tucson, the Azure Gate has no equal! Go as soon as you can!
