Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 45 Tucson B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 1, 2013

This is such a beautiful, serene place. It will restore and renew you. The quiet, large property is a perfect garden with many different cactus, including 12 foot tall saguaro. They have a nice pool surrounded with lounge chairs and exotic plants. The Catalina Mountains shimmer in the background. It is peaceful. Dennis really does make legendary breakfasts. Christine couldn't be more genuinely sweet. The B&B is not large - they can only accommodate a few guests at a time. But guests have figured out the Azure Gate - many guests book weeks at a time, sometimes 2 years in the future. We hope to return soon.

Not only did I get to experience the beauty of Tucson but I also got to stay for a week in the Sabino room at Azure Gate. Owner Dennis & Christine are such wonderful hosts and made me feel at home right away. Their home is so beautiful and the rooms and common areas are very comfortable and relaxing. After hiking all day, I couldn't wait to get "home" and sit at the outside patio near the pool listening to birds and the sound of water. And let me not forget the gourmet breakfast Dennis cooks each morning! This is really a special place and I highly recommend it. Thanks Dennis & Christine for making my stay the best!

We recently stayed for four nights at the Azure Gate deciding not to stay in a hotel. We made the right decision. We were warmly greeted by Christine who showed us around the property and all its amenities. It is located in a residential area close to Sebino Canyon and Mount Lemon- lovely areas to hike. We enjoyed meeting the other guests and exchanging travel stories. We would start our day with a "gourmet" breakfast cooked by Dennis and then decide where to go using the " library" of information provided by the hosts. We really enjoyed our stay in Tucson and cannot more highly recommend the Azure Gate and hope to visit again at sometime in the future.

My wife and i enjoyed 3 nights recently at Azure Gate. This is one of the most comfortable and welcoming b&bs we've stayed in in over 25 years of staying at b&bs throughout the world. The house and grounds are beautiful, the hosts are friendly and intelligent, and the breakfasts are delightful.

Room Tip: All the rooms are comfortable and quiet.

My wife and I were recently in Tucson on vacation and had the pleasure of staying at the Azure Gate for 3 nights. Christina was very helpful with recommendations on sights to see and places to eat, and Dennis created simply the most delicious and interesting breakfasts we've ever experienced at a B&B. They are very welcoming and the B&B is colourful, spotlessly clean, and inviting. We treated it as our oasis in the desert. This B&B is also a great place to stay for an extended period, as attested to by two super nice couples we met who have been coming for over 10 years. Thank you, Christina and Dennis!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Saguaro and the Sabino rooms and liked both (I preferred the former, while my wife...

This was our first trip to Arizona and we were most fortunate to choose the Azure Gate as our place to stay. Our hosts, Dennis and Christine Widman, were friendly and warm and ready to help us in any way they could. They had assembled massive loose leaf books of information on the area. Two we used the most and were most valuable were one on restaurants, with directions and menus, and one on hiking trails in the many state and national parks that surround the area. Breakfasts here are unique, gourmet, and outstanding. During our stay, every guest left empty plates at their places. The setting of this residence has to be experienced. The property is beautifully landscaped with Saguaro and a great variety of other cactii and trees, with an impressive view of the Catalina Mountains.. There is a large patio with a beatiful pool, lounges, and plenty of other places to sit and read, plan one's next adventure, or use a laptop. Azure Gate is a very short drive from a major roadway but is a very quiet spot at every hour, including at night. We found its location very convenient to locations in Tuscon and in every direction. There are many good restaurants that are located nearby - which we appreciated after a long day of touring.

We arrived at the Azure Gate February 25 after enduring blizzard conditions during our drive from Wisconsin. Christine and Dennis welcomed us with a celebratory, "This is the 10th year you've stayed with us," and it did feel like coming home. "Home" the last few years has been the Sabino room with a "Spanish feel" and plenty of room to unpack after days on the road. We have stayed in each of the four accommodations, all are unique and decorated with attention to detail. Patio, swimming pool, and five acres with birds and other wildlife for viewing add to the ambiance. Best, however, are breakfasts: Expect salmon, halibut, marinated tenderloin slices; "anything you can put an egg on top," is acceptable in Dennis' definition of "breakfast." It's not unusual for first time visitors to grab a camera before indulging. In addition there is a library with literally thousands of DVDs and CDs for guests to use. And, always, Christine and Dennis have suggestions for hikes, restaurants, shopping, etc. We're signed up for year 11 next February. Our absolute favorite B&B!
