“Consistently Great for Years!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

St. Mary's has been the best buy Mexican Food Restaurant in Tucson for as far back as I can remember. On my first visit, they were located in a take out only location in the front room of a house a few doors down from the current eat-in place. Over the years, every item we've tried has been in the running for best in the valley. The tortillas are the best, period - especially those large thin wonders (they're available in medium, large and gorditas). Don't miss the tamales - both the red (beef) and green corn are excellent and larger than many. The only downside is that the eat-in atmosphere is not always great - sometimes they get behind on keeping the place cleaned up after the rush. They do keep trying with repaints, tile, etc. As a take out place, it can't be beat and on our last visit it was clean and inviting.

“Good for Take Out - to small to eat there with friends”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Busy, Busy little place because the food is good authentic mexican food. But not a place for a nice sit down experience. Very small area with not enough seating to eat there.

“Hand-made tortillas! What else do I need to say?”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

This place is a must stop whenever I am in town. Be careful when you look for it, you can drive right by. Located on Tucson's West side, it's just a small building without a fancy sign.
All tortillas are made by hand and they are delicious! You wouldn't think there would be a difference, but trust me, there is. Add some of their off the charts refried beans, and you will have the best bean burrito you have ever tasted!
Be prepared to wait if you come during the lunch rush. The dining area is small, but most people get their food to go. You usually can find a place to sit and eat if you want to.

“This is One of Best Hole in the Wall Mexican Restaraunts”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

St. Mary's Mexican restaraount is one of those local treasures anyone staying in Tucson, or living in Tucson, should try. It's an old house converted into an eatery famous for its flour tortillas, (burrito size (8-9 inch) sold by the dozen). Should you get one with your meal, it's wrapped around the plastic fork and is as big as a large pizza you can see through, but it's fresh and stretchy--just how tortillas should be.
Combos are served in such a dizzying variety that it may take you time to chose, but when you do, you'll be rewarded with authentic Sonoran fare. The green birria (shredded beef slow cooked with onions, green chilis, and red peppers) is above standard and very delicious. They serve it alone with tortillas or in the tacos. Burritos are big, the beans are practically addictive. By the end of the meal you are way satisfied with both the taste and price--combos are in the $6 to $7 range.
The dining area is way "hole in the wall" with plastic chairs and few places to sit, which is okay if you're taking out. But we don't go there for the atmosphere, and the food more than makes up for it. Take home a dozen tamales for dinner, and you've been to one of the Best Hole in the Wall's found in Tucson.
