“Snow in Tucson”

Mt. Lemmon Scenic Byway
Ranked #1 of 313 things to do in Tucson

We never expected to see deep snow in (well, just outside) Tucson, even in January. This road up Mt. Lemmon definitely lives up to its name. The pavement is excellent, and the views, terrific. If you like to get out and look around at the overlooks plan a spending a day, and take a warm jacket to use at the top.

Drive slowly and get out of the car at every chance. Take a walk off the beaten path. There is something beautiful everywhere. You drive through multiple climate zones, each one unique. It definitely breaks the monotony of flat ground and endless saguaro cactus!

We love taking this drive whenever we have some freetime. If you take it during the winter you are likely to see a little snow on the side of the road. In the summer there are plenty of lovely pull-offs where you can picnic or take photos.

This drive is a must! It is beautiful all the way, it takes a little time but its totally worth it. No where else can you go from Sonoran desert to Ponderosa pine this quick. Take a picnic to the top you won't regret it.
