“A find”
Reviewed April 21, 2011

I love to be surprised. This perfect little restaurant is run by the Hari Krishna is located in a Tucson neighb. not far from the U. of A. lunch is a delicious vegetarian buffet that is sort of - but not exclusively- Indian in nature. There is a gift shop and you can dine, shoes off, in a traditional dining room or (shoes on) in the restaurant. The other patrons as well as the operaters are all normal everyday folks. The setting very serene with a small garden and aviary. A sweet place for lunch. They serve dinner nightly and Sundays they have a festival followed by a free or pay what you can type of deal. A very memorable afternoon in a lovely setting.

“Great Vegetarian Food in the Vedic Tradition”
Reviewed January 6, 2011

We visited on India night and had a great meal that included a stunningly delicious fruit chutney, wonderful dal, super-fresh salad bar - in fact everything tasted great. The setting is very peaceful and the building is interesting - it doubles as a temple. My only gripe is that the food could have been warmer, but the quality of ingredients, freshness, and great preparation were as good as any Indian restaurant I've visited. This is not fine dining, you eat off of paper plates with plastic utensils, and the decor is more than a bit funky, but if you're after great vegetarian food, this is the place!

“Definitely something different”
Reviewed August 13, 2009

When we travel, we like to try places that we don't have at home. Well, Govinda's certainly fits that bill! It is a lovely property that includes an aviary and koi pond. You leave your shoes outside in a little cubby. They have regular seating, but we chose to sit on the mats on the floor instead. The food is good for a vegan buffet, especially the sweet items. The real treat here is the atmosphere. They have a Hare Krishna shrine behind a portable partition. They were playing lots of John Lennon when we were there. The lady manning the cash register was happy to tell us about Hare Krishna (when we asked). We left feeling very mellow and relaxed. Also, the meal was very inexpensive. This was a dining experience versus just eating a meal to fill our bellies.
