We ate here for dinner. I had the beef tacos and my husband had their signature dish which had a sun dried beef. The food was good but service was a little slow.

this is the place that claims to have invented the chimichanga. if chimis are supposed to be soggy and mostly tortilla, then i guess i don't like chimichangas. i also had the specialty of the house, carne seca. it is TERRIBLE! the only thing i can think positive to say was that the waiter was very sweet. sorry, el charro, the oldest family owned/operated restaurant in the nations history! (the nation deserves better)

El Charro has been around for 90 years and when you eat their food you will understand why. The Carne Seca is out of this world and my personal favorite is their albondigas soup. I am sorry to hear that the Broadway location is closing, but hope for a new eastside location soon.

We have eaten several times at the El Charro Cafe - The Original in Tucson and found the food OK and the atmosphere and service good. When we tried to arrange catering for a group of 12, as per their web site advertisement, we simply struck out after several phone calls and three visits back to Court Street to make arrangements.
First call was supposedly picked up by the Owner who was busy doing the payroll at the time and asked if we could call back at exactly 11 am which we did but the call, and subsequent calls the same day, were not answered. Calls over the next few days were put on hold and the calls eventually dropped. Messages were left but never retrurned. Yes, we double, triple checked, for the correct phone number. We simply don't believe their advertisement: "We cater! Any size! Anywhere! Any time!"

Sadly we chose to visit El Charro during the gem show, a busy time for downtown Tucson. We had to be seated in the covered outdoor patio on a rather chilly day and faced the cold draft of the door every time someone came in. It was disappointing as the inside of the restaurant is quite unique. The server was obviously rushed. The menu was quite extensive and the food was delicious - we tried combination plates with both seafood and beef themes. Travelling with a toddler we appreciated the kids menu and our little critic loved the tray with multiple compartments. Hope to visit El Charro for a second chance during a less busy time!
