Owner description: Voted BEST OF TUCSON every year since 2002 by readers of the Tucson Weekly, The Loft Cinema is a mission-driven, membership-supported nonprofit cinema that screens new independent American and foreign films and documentaries, along with classic art films, interactive events including a monthly short film contest, sing-a-longs and cult favorites. Patrons can enjoy beer, wine, pizza, tamales along with fantastic films. The main theatre seats 500 people and boasts the largest screen in Southern Arizona. In addition to our regular programming, The Loft hosts an annual international film festival in the fall and a free children's film festival every July. The Loft is a member of the Sundance Institute's Art House Project, based on our excellence of programming and service to the community. In 2012 The Loft was selected to be an official venue of the Sundance Film Festival in their Sundance USA program and we have hosted a screening direct from Sundance with the filmmakers every year since. The Loft is one of 7 American cinemas to be a collaborating partner with Film Forward: Advancing Cultural Dialogue in 2012, an honor The Loft also enjoyed in 2011.

“Tucson is Lucky to Have the Loft!”

Life in Tucson would most definitely be much poorer if we didn't have the Loft Cinema! What a jewel of a resource for those of us who love films & documentaries - from black & white to colour films, vintage or new films, foreign to domestic films, serious to silly films, adult & kids films, 35MM or digital. Just usually no "mall" films...well, a couple of times......

As a way to support the Loft, we have been members for years.

Our favorite monthly event is The Essential Cinema program (we pair it with an optional themed luncheon to follow). The pre-film talk by Jeff Yanc, is not to be missed! We usually send out a mass e-mail invitation - it's our way in trying to help recruit new members. Yes, we recruit!

“Best Moviehouse for Cinephiles”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

I love the Loft, which specializes in indie films and does many wonderful restrospectives. Three theaters to choose from. Lots of choices on a weekly basis. Nice snack counter with beer on the menu!
Only complaint is that the staff is sometimes stuffy--not too friendly-- at the ticket counter.

“Support your local arthouse!”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

Movie theaters that serve adult beverages and play movies that aren't in 5 other theaters are the movie theaters that I want to go to. The Loft is one of them. They bring back older films, they bring in foreign films and they do it with style. My husband and I plan on being at the Loft every Thursday and Saturday night in September be/c they are running Coen Brothers films on those evenings. How fun! They also have great popcorn. I know they have expanded but the films we have chosen to see recently haven't been in that part of the building. Come one, come all and help support the Loft

The Loft is wonderful. Always my first choice of where to see a movie. Love seeing old favorites and new independent films here. Friday night shorts is always a fun time too!

“The best place to see indie movies!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

The place to go for alternative films that are not shown in most cinemas. Enjoy the movie with beer or wine or a cup of tea. With a membership you get a discount each time you go and free popcorn! They have great film festivals, too.
