Owner description: Voted BEST OF TUCSON every year since 2002 by readers of the Tucson Weekly, The Loft Cinema is a mission-driven, membership-supported nonprofit cinema that screens new independent American and foreign films and documentaries, along with classic art films, interactive events including a monthly short film contest, sing-a-longs and cult favorites. Patrons can enjoy beer, wine, pizza, tamales along with fantastic films. The main theatre seats 500 people and boasts the largest screen in Southern Arizona. In addition to our regular programming, The Loft hosts an annual international film festival in the fall and a free children's film festival every July. The Loft is a member of the Sundance Institute's Art House Project, based on our excellence of programming and service to the community. In 2012 The Loft was selected to be an official venue of the Sundance Film Festival in their Sundance USA program and we have hosted a screening direct from Sundance with the filmmakers every year since. The Loft is one of 7 American cinemas to be a collaborating partner with Film Forward: Advancing Cultural Dialogue in 2012, an honor The Loft also enjoyed in 2011.

The one movie theatre in town featuring, on a regular basis, foreign and domestic "arty" type films.Multiple screens, good seating and sound and easy access help to make it appealing.

“Small and selective”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Offers movies a bit off the grid, along with beer, wine, snacks, all in a pleasant setting - a completely different and much more enjoyable experience, for me, than humongous multicomplex theaters.

“Not For Profit Facility”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

A not for profit cinema is a great idea, but the physical property needs a dramatic refurb. If you go, just be prepared for a dismal facility with a great mission and a wonderful line up of art cinema.

We originally started the non-profit to save The Loft from closing in Tucson but we do realize it has some fixing up to do. We're currently in the middle of a capital campaign to fix up the building and add a larger concession stand and an additional screen so that soon the building will match the level of our programming.

“Best local spot for movies, pizza, and beer!”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

There is always something going on here, though I will say if you are the quite type to get easily offended you might want to stick to a normal theater. People here get VERY into the movies and shows that they play and everyone has a great time interacting with what's on the screen. Not a quiet place but that's half the fun!

They serve pizza, beer, and other snacks. Never been disappointed with their beer prices or selection and find it the best place to see a movie.

They do First Friday's which we recently took my fiance's parents to for the first time last month and everyone loved it. They show a bunch of not screened short films people from around town submit and after 3 minutes the audience gets to vote to keep it playing or not and at the end their is an award for the best one. Funnest thing to do on the first Friday of the month!

I just hope they stay in business because they bring something to Tucson no other place has.
