Just returned from this vacation. Property located on a main street. The good point is this street can lead you to many tourist attractions. Our unit was located away from the front and drive by traffic. I mentioned that I had read about the noise in front facing rooms from TripAdvisor.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. Small pool when local owners come in the afternoon, with lots of kids. Parking lot had a fair amount of spaces. Small lobby bar/restaurant had good snack food. lots of restaurants nearby.AC in unit was wonderful . Was ok but would not go there to stay again.

Room Tip: Stay away from front rooms

We've stayed at the Varsity Clubs of America (VCA) 4 or 5 times now, by ourselves and with friends. We exchange a time share to come to Tucson about once a year. We love it's central location, the low key atmosphere and the small but super clean & well equipped exercise room. We have always had rooms facing the back, and haven't had any traffic noise at all, it sounds like that may be a problem only in rooms facing the road. Many of the back rooms also have marvelous views of the mountains. The beds are marvelous! The only negative we've ever experienced is the snack bar's food is pretty bad, but there are tons of great restaurants all around so it doesn't matter.

The location is central to the area, but getting in and out is difficult due to dividers in the middle of the street. The rooms (suites) are large and well appointed if a bit dated. The beds were excellent. The desk clerks (no concierge) appear to be collage kids with little training/experience in helping guests arrange their visit (dining, entertainment, etc.).

Spent two weeks at the Varsity Club with friends. We'd been there before so we new that 311 and 313 were 2 bdrm units with huge balconies which overlook the pool and have nice moutain views.
The staff is very helpful and pleasant. Any requests we had were dealt with immediately.
Only complaint would be that the wide ledge on the balcony is covered with bird poop. It would be nice and more sanitary if the cleaning staff cleaned the ledges, as they do wet mop the balcony.
A good place to stay...we will be back.

My husband and I spent a week here with plans to tour the Tucson sites. We loved Tucson, but found this place too noisy at night. We had an outer room and it was like sleeping on the sidewalk next to the road. There were sirens, loud traffic sounds, etc. all night long. The intersection (Alvernon and Speedway) is just a busy spot and an odd one for a vacation rental unit. The pool is nice and there's a hot tub.

We had a one-bedroom unit and the kitchen area was teeny-tiny. It felt very crowded. I guess if you could get a two-bedroom unit on the inside wing (overlooking the pool) it would be acceptable, but only then would I say "Okay" to this place as a vacation spot.

We spent a week at Varsity Clubs of America (VCA) in Tucson in January 2011 as a timeshare exchange. Our two-room suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Furnishings were more utilitarian than stylish but the bed was very comfortable. Don't expect to do much cooking in the kitchen since the sink is bar-size and the stove is a small two-burner affair. It's all functional, but cramped. The microwave is useful, as is the coffee maker and the (surprisingly) full-size refrigerator. there is also a large George Foreman toaster oven/broiler. A tip might be to request a pool-facing room rather than street-facing. Our room faced Speedway Boulevard, which most lives up to its name during the night when you're trying to sleep. There's an unending parade of trucks, motorcycles, and cars with muffler issues. We did not use the pool or the spa because we weren't around during the day; plus, in January the air temperature can be chilly, and the pool area is in the shadow cast by the building. Never having stayed at a VCA, I wasn't fully aware that its theme carries forth to the decor of the place. I happen to think the attempt at a sports theme is lame and cheapens the place. Items like the framed posters and sports jerseys in the hallways and the basement rec-room inspired U of A team clock in our unit all serve to lower the overall impression of the hotel. Yes, I realize that "Varsity" is in the name and the theme centers around it, but it lowers the bar for what is actually a very decent place. As a note to timeshare swappers, this is a suite-hotel, not a resort. Some have noted that the neighborhood isn't great, but I wouldn't entirely agree. It is neither a good nor a bad neighborhood: it's no-neighborhood. If you're at all familiar with the street layout of Tucson, you'll know that it consists mostly of a huge grid system. Except possibly for parts of downtown, it's a driving city and not a walking city. Having said that, the location of VCA is convenient to a great many restaurants of all types, and within ten minutes or so you can blast out of town on I-10 or I-19. If you're looking for decent accommodation in a convenient location, VCA will probably work out well.

We stayed here for a week in a one-bedroom with what I think is considered a "pull-mans" kitchen. We had four burners, a convection over, full sized ref, bar sink, with an outdoor grill available. Although we had a grill available to us, there were no grilling tools (spatula, fork, etc), and we needed a lighter to start it. There is a restaurant and bar on site. The room was comfortable although cozy. Other rooms were available with balcony or patio. We do not have kids; however, there was not much on-site for kids other than a pool and hot-tub. The restaurant is simple; however, the food was great and a full bar was available. We ate in the restaurant and also did "take out" to our room so we could forgo the bar bill. Fitness facility is nice and lots to do near by.
