We were looking in the price range of $50 to stay one night in Tucson, there were a few choices that had okay reviews so it was just a gamble to choose this one. We chose this location because it seemed away from everything which meant it would be quieter and easier to get to and it was. The essentials were in walking distance, a QT across the road, an IHOP in the same parking lot. There were other convenient stores and restaurants within walking distance. There is also a lot of shopping and dining all up and down Oracle Rd which is only minutes away from the hotel. Grant Rd can be a little shady in some areas but nothing to be concerned about.
When we arrived, the receptionist was right to the point, sign here and here’s the key. Parking was almost completely available. It doesn’t look like there are many rooms judging by the size of the building. We had a room next to the lobby on the 2nd floor; I prefer 2nd level to avoid any upstairs elephants ;)
The room was clean enough and yes there was the occasional stain on the carpet and the décor was outdated but it was to be expected for the price. The few things I’ll mention might have been in previous posts, but I didn’t go through all the reviews so if some are repeated it might be for the best or the worst.
The queen bed was one of the hardest beds we have ever slept on. The pillows offered no support, and we both hardly slept because that bed was ridiculously stiff! The next day we did some hiking and felt every ache that bed gave us. The A/C unit was comfortable and not incredibly noisy, but it made a percolating type of sound when it was on cool and high so we had to turn it off in the night.
The bathroom was relatively clean; the wallpaper was coming away due to the moisture I’d suspect. The mini bottle of shampoo and soap are awful, I’d recommend bringing your own if possible.
The cable was good enough, free HBO amongst other channels however I noticed the higher the #s went the channels got worse for quality. The channel names did not match the actual channel, i.e. Country Music Channel was the Disney channel etc. Again, not being picky at all but just letting you know all the small things we encountered.
The mini fridge did not freeze our ice packs we’ve been traveling with; it was on full power but never froze after 17 hours. We never used the provided coffee maker, microwave, an iron with ironing board, or hairdryer.
The pool was really dirty, but it had been windy and there are palms all around the pool area so all it was is debris from the palms. The patio furniture has seen better days, mostly sun faded with dirt stained and straps missing. Random trash such as band aids and candy wrappers were on the ground. The Jacuzzi was nice and worked perfectly and the pool was chilly being that it was shaded by the hotel building.
There was a refreshment vending machine outside; the snack machine was in the lobby. Washing machines were next to the ice machine on the bottom floor. No elevators that I could actually see, not to say there were none but we just didn’t see any.
Breakfast was as follows: regular and decaf coffee, cranberry and orange juice, rice krispies, fruit loops, raisin bran, and corn flakes for cereal options. Milk, creamers, sugars, jellies along with 2 types of bread for toast. There were fresh muffins as well as packaged Otis Spunkmeyer muffins and packaged Super 8 cinnamon rolls. Oranges and apples were the only fresh fruit available. So enough for a light breakfast, but if you want hot and heavy just walk across the parking lot to IHOP.
Check out was a breeze, again, here’s you receipt and on your way. So overall, if it weren’t for the terrible night’s sleep we had we’d stay here again in the future. But that really made an impact on our day plans so we will probably look elsewhere in our next stay in Tucson.

Room Tip: Booking directly on Super 8's website offered the best deals.

Travelling in a group requests some oganizational skills. When we were looking for a place to stay in Tucson, AZ we found the Motel 8 that offered a convenient location and good value for money for the four rooms we needed for a group of motorbike enthusiasts. At every stop, one of the riders secured all the rooms with his credit card, the next morning every individual room was then charged to the credit card of the party using the room. Usually no big deal except for the Motel 8 in Tucson were the receptionist did not fulfill our wish for separat invoices and was extremely pushy. In my oppinion it should be the patron to have a wish and be up to the receptionist to impose his will on the customer. Good hotel and if the dark haired gentleman with the specs would have been more helpful and polite, I would have rated the place overall and the service as "Very Good", if it were for the services rendered by the lady.

Spent two nights here and although it is not a fancy hotel, the price was right and it was clean and comfortable.

Far enough from the interstate so the noise is less. Typical midrange motel, close to access anywhere in tucson. We chose it for our base during the gem shows. It has worked out well, rustys restaurant up the street for good meat and potatoes meals.

Selected this Tucson 8 as the parking was well lit and seemed secure...Requested a handicapped room w/fridge & microwave...Entering the room, found the bed stripped but...UNMADE ! Back direct,to the office (in the rain) through a area where the sidewalk was littered with construction debris... With apologies from the desk & back to another room by a less obstructed but covered route...No fridge or microwave in this second unit. The well worn sheets looked as if manufactured from recycled cardboard. However, unwilling to make another trip to the office,(long day in difficult driving conditions)we opted to make the best of a poor situation...In the AM,wishing to further inspect just how deteriorated the bed linen actually was...I found on my side, a old body fluid stain to include, dried fecal material !!! Not only old, old, old, UNCHANGED as well. As we has worn linens to bed(unstained) not us, the responsible party. Fully disgusted we called notso, Super 8 customer care line with our concerns...Then took the issues to the property management. And also personally, with the manager present,to the housekeeping staff...As a result, charges were reversed and we proceeded to the next Tucson motel adventure...There are plenty of Tucson budget options... give this one a miss...carracar
