Sabino Canyon is a rare gem in a metropolitan area. There’s a tram that goes miles into the canyon for those unable or unwilling to hike. One can get on or off at many different stops. There are numerous well defined trail marked with distances. The visitor’s center has a plethora of interesting informative things to view along with a wonderful gift shop relevant to the canyon. It’s remarkable to walk 10 minutes into the canyon and discover that Tucson is no longer visible. Wear a hat, sunblock & bring bottled water!

If you want to enjoy a nice, easy and cool hike, you should definitely get there as early as you can. Getting there later than 11am is for the ones who enjoy the heat.
Sabino Canyon is a wonderful place!

There is a very good visitor center with an informative museum. Hiking is the preferred way to see Sabino Canyon and all of the areas in the area. There is a tram that takes people about 4 miles up into the main canyon crossing the river 7 or 8 times with a narration of the geology, animals and early explorers of the canyon. Highly recommended.

Very nice place in Tucson. Great for hiking and for watching wildlife. Not expensive but can get a little crowded on weekends.
Good place to take the family.

If this is on your "to do" list, do yourself a favor and do not put it off any longer. It is mindboggling to see how close to the City of Tucson such raw and natural beauty can be experienced. Whether you take the tram or hike you are assured of a wonderful day. We took the tram to the top and then hiked down until we were tired, then got back on the tram for another round trip. You just need to remember not to take the tram all the way out of the canyon or you will have to pay again to get back on. Any of the stops within the canyon do not cost you anything. You can ride all day if you like as long as you don't go out to the "turn around" at the park entrance. There is a $7 or $8 (not sure which) fee to enter the park or you can buy a year's pass for $20.00.
