Walked this to the top and back - my muscles are still hurting! The views are tremendous, the people very welcoming. Make sure you take a hydration pack (one bottle of water is NOT enough with the Tucson dry heat).

We visited in 100 degree heat.... we took the little ride up through the canyon and loved James's commentary - it was hilarious!! My kids had already completed the Junior Ranger programme and we were all very hot. On the way back down if you plan to get off, do so at Stop 8. We bathed in a beautiful waterfall filled pool and there were only a couple of familes here. Absolutely stunning fresh water from the mountains and so refreshing. Take plenty of water although there are drinking fountains at the stops and loo's too but the water is warm!

Wonderful place!

Great place for a day hike. Take the tram to the top and walk back down. Nice easy walk with loads of photo opportunities. Very beautiful and serene. I recommend getting back on the tram at the bottom stop to return to the parking lot. It's a long... walk in the blazing sun.

I love that this park which is within Tucson city limits, but one can really get away from it all quite quickly.
Excellent visitor center to start off with. Plenty of free materials about trails and hiking info. Also, I bought several bird and cactus guides there that were very helpful.
I've walked the pavement road round-trip several times (takes about an hour at a good clip), and also ventured off onto the winding sandy and rocky paths to get close-up views of the amazing saguaros (some with crazy branches bending here and there). There's a wash that sometimes has a river running down it ---and over the bridges ---in the monsoon season. Impressive! Lots of wild animal sightings... especially at dusk. Deer, roadrunners, hummingbirds, and even a rattlesnake.

We took the tram into the Canyon. This clearly is a child friendly experience, but a little less so for non-family adults. The driver does not stop talking the entire 45 minutes of the ride and about 20% of the 'talk' is instructions on how to ride. Hiking the Canyon, swimming in it appear to be wonderful experiences, which we did not have time to partake in.
