Owner description: Catalina State Park sits at the base of the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains. The park is a haven for desert plants and wildlife and nearly 5,000 saguaros. The 5,500 acres of foothills, canyons and streams invites camping, picnicking and bird watching — more than 150 species of birds call the park home. The park provides miles of equestrian, birding, hiking, and biking trails which wind through the park and into the Coronado National Forest at elevations near 3,000 feet. The park is located within minutes of the Tucson metropolitan area. In addition to having a very nice campground, Catalina SP offers a wonderful hike to Romero Pools which always have water. Romero trail is also a great place to see wildflowers in Spring.

This is a spectacular mountain. The hike up to the water pools and waterfall was gorgeous. Wild flowers were out. No garbage on the trail EXCEPT for a diaper at the pools. BLEH! Shame on who ever left it there.

Nice to visit a park that welcomes dogs; hard to understand those that don't. Had a nice hike through beautiful desert landscape and an opportunity to make friends with my daughter's newest pal, an adopted res-dog.

We took day hike on Romero Canyon trail to Romero pools. The day was perfect with temps in the 70s. I wouldn't want take this hike in any hotter weather. It's about a 1000 ft elevation gain from parking lot to pools in 2.8 miles. Beautiful day all around. Yes, it's a popular hike many folks on the trail from families with kids, college age students, to seniors (me). Everyone very friendly and courteous. My only complaint is that music devises should be banned from trails or only with headphones. This is a nature hike folks with lots of bird sounds. Didn't use the park facilities much but it was nice to have a little store for end of hike treats. Toilets were clean and sufficient for pit toilets. I would like to visit again when more flowers are in bloom.

We did a trail walk here, but were short on time. Would have liked to have had longer to do a longer trail. Very pleasant couple of hours nevertheless.
