For the size of the zoo it was very well done. Very nice selection of animals with beautiful habitats. The elephant habitat was outstanding. It gave you a true sense of where they live in the wild. As for the guest accomodations there was plenty of shade for the Tucson heat, water was readily available and the staff was friendly.

Looking for something to do one morning in Tucson, I decided on Reid Park Zoo, which was within walking distance of where I was staying. As others have said, the zoo is very walkable for all ages and is a nice way to spend a few hours in Tucson at a very reasonable price. The zoo includes many favorites from lions, tigers, and bears to giraffes, elephants, tapirs, and otters. There are even a few enclosures you can walk into, granted they mostly include birds, but still they offer a chance to get up close to species you probably have never seen before. Some animals weren't on display such the polar bear, sun bear, and some of the monkeys for various reasons (though I wouldn't blame a polar bear for not liking Tucson!). And how can I forget the tons of peacocks roaming freely through the park often calling to each other with the males displaying their plumage. There was even at least one albino male, snow white with white plumage. All in all a nice morning adventure!

The zoo is on the smaller side so it's very doable in one day or even one afternoon. Our granddaughter loved feeding the giraffes (hint - get in line a little early) and seeing the animals. The train which runs ride outside the zoo is a nice little ride not on any tracks, but it takes you past a pond where there are swans and ducks, etc which she also enjoyed. The parking was very easy.

We go to the Reid Park Zoo every summer. Enjoyed the outdoor--movie, on the huge lawn! Don't go during the hottest hours in the summer.

Several of the staff members stopped and took time to visit with us about the animals they were caring for, answering our questions in an interesting and complete manner. There was a wide and satisfying variety of animals, although not many of each kind. Many beautiful peacocks roamed free! Several exhibit areas were empty, awaiting residents; if they had all been occupied it would have been much better. The layout was pleasant and easy to stroll through. Much enthusiastic community support was evident from the many donated items which enhance the zoo. We would visit it again when we are in Tucson.
