Everything at Tohono Chul Park Restaurant and gift shop was wonderful. The selection of food very unique and delicious. It was served in a timely fashion. The waiter was terrific and offered suggestions when I was stymied by the choices. I bought a beautiful hand-made platter as a gift in their gift shop. My only disappointment was that I didn't have time to go thru the park. Okay ... next trip!!

Tohono Chul is somewhat akin to the Sonoran Desert Museum, but without the animals. You can easily spend 3 or 4 hours here, walking the meandering paths (no hills to speak of) and getting an education in Desert Flora, not only from the Sonoran, but Texan and mexican as well. Plants are wellidentified and there is a short trail that will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about saguaro cactus (they can soak up 200 gallons of water in a good rainfall.)

The presentation of all this information is just excellent, with no money or imagination spared. A great example of this is the geological display that takes you on a journey from 350+ million years ago to the present, showing you in layman's terms using very clever means to explain the Tucson area mountains and geologic makeup.

We ended our tour with an excellent lunch in a beautiful courtyard near the entrance.

Great place to learn about the Sonoran Desert Plants. Well planned paths and helpful docents. I try to avoid the greenhouse because I always buy too many fascinating plants.

While one must pay admission, it is worth it to learn about desert plants and take a nice walk in the desert. Crafted landscapes formal and natural encourages love of the desert. Excellent programs from entertainment to educational. Visit the nursery and gift shops for unique presents from mostly local sources. The attached cafe is a great place to sit and enjoy some prickly pear lemonade and watch the hummingbirds.

The gardens have good signage that allows the various species to be identified. The raptor show was well-done. We spent half-a-day exploring the entire site. We had also toured the Saguaro National Park, and walking the desert trail in Tohono Chul was very similar.

The facilities were clean and well-maintained. There was no crowd on the day we were there, but judging from the size of the parking lot, it appears that attendance could be much more on some days, and if so, our experience may not have been as pleasant.
